Title: New product for throttle builders
Post by: Aerosim Solutions on March 26, 2010, 04:51:43 PM
Hi All
I have just commenced building a B777 throttle unit for our good friend 'Kennair' here in Perth, I machined the completed throttle base design on the CNC machine yesterday.  I'm pleased to announce the design is now offered as an available product from Aerosim Solutions.
It occurred to me a while back that all the TQs I produce should have the same basic mechanism to swing the levers and to save costs on unneccessary additional design work. I then thought that the basic throttle movement would be a good product to offer cockpit builders who prefer to make their own TQ. Pro TQs are expensive items at around 4000 bucks each as we all know so I have desgined a basic movement for the home builder!
It doesn't matter if you are building an Airbus, Boeing, Learjet or Twin Baron, for simulators a TQ needs a pair of solid levers that rotate potentiometers and have a means of adjusting the friction on the levers. This unit is very solidly constructed unit weighing in at 800grams, it can be utilised to save a lot of time and headaches for the amateur throttle builder. Home made levers for the relevent aircraft can be attached to my mechanism and the 10kohm potentiometers can be wired to any interface card. I can offer three versions for 2, 3 or 4 engine throttles and I will be offering the twin engine version as seen in these pics at an introductory price of only AUD$275.00 in kit form or AUD$295.00 assembled.

Although not in need of one right now I have to say this is one of the most innovative products I have seen in a long time!

Gwyn, I am sure your going to sell these like hotcakes!!   I hope you are ready for a lot of orders :-)

Excellent idea and product

Fantastic work as always Gwyn and what a great idea.  This'll save many builders a lot of design and manufacturing headaches trying to get the pot mechanism happening and allow them to concentrate on the particulars of the throttle handles for their respective aircraft.  Can't wait to see this one morph into my 777 quad.

Ken.

It occurred to me that this mechanism could also be adapted for yoke control as well. You would need two of these of course and it would be nice if you produced the same basic design with one pot instead of two. Hope this modified version will be available when I'm ready to start on my yoke sometimes this year I hope.  ;)

Thanks guys, I appreciate the positive comments and it's a big buzz for me to announce this product, I think it will be a good seller. The next one that I make will have a pair of clutch plates and provision for an auto-throttle drive stepper motor. I always planned a new B737TQ for my own sim and this can be the start of that TQ.
Maurice - I specialise in "Custom" components, you don't have to wait for a product to come along, tell me exactly what you want and I'll make it for you! This was always my vision for Aerosim - to provide what you can't already buy. I take it you would like a yoke column pivot point pot drive....I think that is a good idea and I'll make a prototype soon! If it is a component that can benefit the cockpit building community in general I am keen to add it to my product list. Priority at the moment is Ken's B777 TQ, I'll be posting progress pics of that unit soon.

Cheers, Gwyn

Hey Gywn,

This looks amazing! What a fabulous idea... where were you a few months ago when I was trying to figure out a setup for my 757 throttle? I just might need to modify my setup using your new contraption. Did you say the tension is adjustable? That was the hardest part for me to figure out; keeping my levers from falling forward. Nicely done!

Matt

Hi Rob - three engine version - AUD$350, I would just need to know the exact spacing you require of the vertical lever plates.

Yes Matt, the friction is fully adjustable and very easy to adjust.

A very elegant solution to the hardest task in throttle building.
