Hey Everyone,

Been installing addons for FSX into P3D v4.5 and found a very useful program that works well for all versions of P3D (v1-5) and FSX.

It's called FlightSim Estonia Migration Tool. Basically, whatever addons you have for FSX, it will automatically change the install directories for you when running the install.exe (insert name) from said addons. All you do is purchase it, activate it and tell it what version of P3D you have by selecting the P3D Program Files Folder of the version you're using (this is done only once before installing any addons).

Then, you run the addon as if it's normally going into FSX, but the install dialog folder will show the folders of the P3D version you selected earlier. You then hit enter of the install and it'll complete the installation. The key here is it creates the addon.xml that you would otherwise have to manually edit and add to the addons folder for P3D.

If you have a lot of addons, could you imagine all the time you'd spend manually editing addon.xml files, let alone transferring folders and files into P3D, as well as editing registry files in order to get the FSX addons to work.

Nope...can't imagine it...not anymore...LOL! Not since I purchased this program. It cost €9.99 or about $11 US.

What version of P3D are you upgrading to?  If it is 5, be aware that several sceneries need to be tweaked for them to work properly or you might end up with an addon scenery and the default scenery showing up at the same time.

Hey Jason,

I'm staying with v4.5 for now, but thanks for the heads up....

Hello John,

If I might throw a monkey wrench into things...my plan was to stick with 4.5 until MSFS matured enough to be suitable for home cockpit builders...but it seemed the progress towards that means is slow at the moment so I moved up to P3Dv5.2HF1. The performance enhancements was worth the move in itself..added bonus is that roughly 95% of my 4.5 software was compatible. Right off the hop I was seeing 60 FPS. I limit it to 30 and for the most part it's a smooth experience, although even with the enhanced performance I'll see see the odd stutter. It's a nicer sim visually as well with the weather enhancements. Active Sky does need a new license though. Anyways, some more food for thought :)

EDIT: Changed FSP to FPS

Ed is correct, and the reason I went with 5 instead of 4.5 as well.  Most of my sceneries if they were 4.x compatible had free updates.  Only a few required a small, $5-$10 upgrade price to get the compatible version.

Eventually, I'll move up once I upgrade the main PC, I'm still running I7 2600k yet.

Although, chasing the rabbit is getting really hard now!
