Title: B737 N1/SPD REF Switches (Video)
Post by: archen on April 02, 2013, 03:31:52 AM
Hi guys,
As some of you noticed I'm now selling my starter switches to the community. I'm now working on my N1 spd ref switches on the autobrake-panel.

They feature the springloaded-to-center mechanism on the small knob with a small detent between +1/+10 and -1/-10. Fully supported by Prosim737.
I'm still waiting for some more info about this switches from a pilot. Hopefully I will receive this info this week and adjust the design if needed to replicate the real plane.

I only have my simworld MIP to build them after so I need some help from community.
If some users please could measure if these switches would fit your mip? The diameter is 40mm and lenght is ~90mm. (See pictures attached)

On my simworld mip there is 43mm between the switches and that makes 3mm clearence so that's no problem. I just want to be sure that this switches will fit most mip's available.

If anyone have some time to spare, please let me know what brand of MIP you have and if it will fit.

Thank you very much!

Best regards,
Anders

Hi Anders,

I just measured my Engravity with a digital caliper and it looks to be 42mm between centers. I believe that the Simworld MIP is pretty much the same size as the Engravity.

One of my clock customers bought the Engravity size clock and said it fitted perfectly. So I assume most of the other elements would be the same. So my 42mm might be 43mm  ;)

Cheers  :D
Joe.

Archen,
Let me know if you have any questions about how the switch operates.  Ill be back in the airplane on Sunday if you need anything specific.

Hi Mike,
Thank you! There is one question that I still haven't got an answer to. Please correct me if something else is not as correct.

I've got the information that the small knob is springloaded to center. If you turn it 45 degrees you increase or decrease the value by 1 and if you turn it more you increase/decrease by 10. What I still don't got any information on is if there is a small detent between these two positions? I guess there should be something so the pilot got a feeling of where the +10 zone starts?
Could you please check that for me?

Thank you so much for your time Mike!

Best regards,
Anders

No problem.. honestly I have only used them a few times however I do remember them being a pain to operate lol.. I remember passing the number I wanted, then skipping by tens or so when I only wanted a few lol.. Ill be in the airplane on Sunday so ill double check the detent or resistance again on the knob and let ya know exactly.

Hey Mike,
No worries. A pilot friend of mine gave me information that I needed. I hope you get well very soon.

I was so curious about the new spring positions so I made the new parts today. Works good! The problem with the deadzone in the center is much much smaller now. The feeling is very nice too. There are some small things I need to take care of regarding the manufacturing process. But all and all I'm very satisfied with the result of this project.

http://youtu.be/bL84aQJQ3qo (http://youtu.be/bL84aQJQ3qo)

I hope you also liked it. I only have hardware to manufacture 2 complete sets. When I got them sold I will order hardware for some more sets.

Leadtime for the two first sets will be around 10-14 days (depending on if you want the knobs to be included in your package).

The knobs on the video is made by a friend of mine here in Sweden.
For pricing and order goto www.knobs.se (http://www.knobs.se) (Webpage under construction)

If you are interested in one of the first two sets send me an email or PM. My email is archen (AT) live (DOT) se.

I'll sell them in a kit of two. One for N1 and one for SPD. I can only guarantee software support for Prosim737 as thats what I'm using.

Price for a kit: €185 + shipping (€19 worldwide)

Edit: Lowered shipping to €19

Best regards,
Anders

Hey Anders,

Very promising to see your latest creation work so well. As you know I intend to bye Overhead Panels and MIP from FDS. My question is, could I connect your switches to their Sys4X Card and then via FSUIPC to ProSim or is there a better way?

Edward

Hi Edward,

Sorry, I have very little knowledge about the SYS-card. Maybe Steve Cos @ FDS can answer that for you.

The switches need 5 regular digital inputs for the centering-knob. So I don't think it should be any problem at all.
The centering-knob is nothing special, just a normal rotary that I've modifed.

Best regards,
Anders

If they are all switch inputs it should work. If there is a rotary encoder then that would not be connected to the SYS card.

It's just switch inputs. No encoder so that should be the answer to your questition Edward.

Anders

Hey guys!
Yesterday I made the first set completely in my own workshop without the use of the lathe at my primary work.

Feels pretty great to not being dependent on my work and know that I can make the complete set in my own workshop!

Great feeling!

Got all switches from Anders, excellent immersion experience. They come with knobs from knobs.se for a modest incremental price.

Guys take advantage as long as he has some left.

I was able to get a Honeywell jaw damper magnetize knob.

Cheers

Thanks Luis for your kind words. Just to clarify for everyone. I dont have the equipment or knowledge to make knobs but I do recommend knobs.se and I can also arrage the sale and include them in the same package but payment for the knobs goes directly to knobs.se and not to me.

Hey guys,

I've now updated my N1/SPD switches to V2. The bottom part of the switch is completely rebuilt and the centering mechanism is also rebuilt.

I'm very pleased with the result. The centering is very distinctive and precise now.

Webshop is not yet updated but all new orders will receive the new V2. It's the same price as V1.
