JAMES PRICE and MATT FORD, the "Founding Fathers" of Simbuilding will be present !!!
More exciting details on the upcoming FDS/Cockpit builders Get Together
As you already know, the Event is scheduled for June 2012, and will be hosted at the FDS new Facility concomitant with the 2012 FDS Open House
Just quoting Peter here:
"Two of the Pioneers of this entire pursuit we all find ourselves in are going to be in attendance as well as offering an overview of their setups. . Both of these gentlemen are inspirational figures to many of us that have been around this community for the past ten years. They are the masters of taking real aircraft parts and bringing them back to life"
I already have a list of CB crew members attending but I would like to update so that we can plan better.
Please send me a new confirmation PM, even if you already did, with your arrival date if avail.
Members who have not yet registered please PM me.
As said before, "Tons of good time on the Agenda, and finally meeting Cockpitbuilders Crewmembers from all over the world as well as an equally enthusiastic crowd of FDS builders."
Instructions corner:
Newmarket is located North of Toronto and a short drive from Pearson Airport (about 40 miles) . FDS is one mile from Highway 404 Exit 49 (Vivian Road).
Just paste this in the Google map itinerary search:

Depending on traffic (could be heavy on Friday afternoon) you may wish to use 407 east, (through 400 North). 407 is much faster but a toll fee will be added to your car rental bill.
Otherwise take 401 east then 404 North to Newmarket.

Top Job Jack. I am looking forward to this :)
Wow, this is going to be a blast! I have not seen Matt and James since a trip to PFC in California many years ago. Really looking forward to it!
OK... I'm booked!
Decided to just use some miles, so I'm flying into YYZ Friday afternoon and renting a car. I have reservations at the Holiday Inn Express in Newmarket for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. Flying home Monday afternoon.
Looking forward to meeting everyone attending in person.
Sounds great... will be a shame to miss this. Perhaps next year :(
Sure sounds like a great time!
Ill be doing my best to get there however i have to see what kind of schedule im awarded on May 18th. Not much advanced notice i know, sorry :(

Warren, I would really enjoy a few pints with ya. Looking forward to it :)
Looking forward to meeting all you folks!
Hotel booked - Holiday Inn Express, so should have plenty of company for a few late beers :D
I arrive at the Toronto Airport, presumably the International Terminal at 15:10 - hopefully :D
Anyone else arriving around say 4 to 4:30pm, allowing for baggage/Imigration, who fancies sharing a limo to Newmarket?

Should be a lot of fun. I will be the one grinning from ear to ear More then likely in a Cockpitbuilders shirt :) If I can manage to get the day off (which I am hoping for at this point) I should be rolling into Newmarket around 1:30-2pm give or take.

Just arranging to fly over with Mark from Sim-A and staying at Holiday Inn. Looks like a late Friday night is in order ????

LOL Sean, its only a short flight :) LOL
Well, work just cut into my plans. Now I have to be in Stillwater, OK at Frontier Electronics May 30 to June 1, then leave for our Clearwater Plant on June 3.
Looks like another miss! Damn!
Hope you all have a great time. Next year beers on me
I'm in!!! Finally decided to bite the bullet and attend. Hope to see you guys Friday night.

Room is all booked at the Holiday In Express. Tyler and I took Friday off so we can get there and spend the evening with everyone and meet some folks I have known since the 90s and never met. Looking forward to seeing James and Matt. And yes I think Friday will be a late night! ::)

Somehow I think we will find a substitute! ;)
If they zone in Canada as they do in the US, I'm sure there is an Applebees/Bennigans/Chili's (or Canadian equivalent) within walking distance of the Holiday Inn Express.
There is a Swiss Chalet that serves good food and is licensed. Short walk from the Holiday Inn . Also a Pub style bar down from FDS called the Lion and the Firkin.
Few choices for you.
All the Diet Coke you can drink at McDonalds for $1.00 Canadian. Does not get any better than that ;D
Maurice
Lucky men, I am in Ireland, can't afford it this year. Have a little kid which requires more work and time. The only get togethers I have ever attended is my local pilot school which isn't anything near to what you guys are attending. Although I must say I am lucky enough to be near EHAM for the yearly Flight Sim Fest, probably going to make it this year, I haven't been there in about 4-5 years. I deserve it... lol..... Thats what I am going to say to the missus. Of course she has to understand.
Great, sounds as if the pre landing checklist has been completed :)

See, looks like we are all set.
Realistically, as long as everyone agrees to leave their vehicles at the hotel, we can stumble our way to some place. I am planning to arrive at the hotel around 2. in the Friday, I am leaving home at 8. Should be in Newmarket by 1 give or take, (Depending on # of pee breaks and coffee fueling)
May need to get a snooze in before we head over to the meet n greet at 5.
Looking forward to it.

Sorry guys,
It looks like I'm going to miss the 2012 get together altogether due to my in laws 40th anniversary :'( yes you heard me correctly my in laws :-X it is a last min surprise party by my evil sister in-laws :-[ :'( . To add insult to injury they unanimously voted and put me in charge of chauffeuring them around so they don't get suspicious. :o
Have fun and please take a lot of pictures.
Cheers
Phil
That sucks Phil, but on the bright side, you will be spending time with your family. We will endeavor to take lots of pictures and share with you upon our return.

LMFAO.. Hilarious.. That really is a good one.. (Quite possibly very truthful as well) LOL
I'm jealous :-\ Trevor do you know a good divorce attorney? :o ;D :idiot:
LOL.. Actually I do :) LMFAO
Hey Everyone,
As much as I wish I had a problem like Phil's, which is really funny by the way, but mine is more on the depressive side. However, I accepted it, so please don't feel sad for me...it's all good.
The thing is, Karen and I cannot attend the meeting this year because roughly two weeks I started having bad pains in my left side, in the upper area of my descending colon. It has been none stop and the 6 cookies a day of Oxycodone I am already on doesn't mask it. I went for lab work Friday before last and I had a CT scan last Friday. In both cases, they came back negative; however, the doctor is not satisified and is scheduling me for more test and likely a colonoscopy in the next two weeks or so. She also recommends I do not travel because it might make things worse.
Therefore, Karen and I will miss out on all the fun, but we feel better in knowing that the first ever "Cockpit Builders Get Together" will happen. And, who knows, this might be the start of something that can one day be called the "Cockpit Builders International Conference" with 1000's of vistors and 100's of vendors attending. Plus, it could be in Vegas, or at Boeing, or at Airbus for one of those years (don't laugh, we all need an excuse to go to Vegas to see show girls or a reason to sneak into Boeing or Airbus to steal airplane parts...uh, admire the decor). Anyway, we wish everyone who is attending a great time and safe travels to and from the event.
Finally, here is a request, would it be possible for FDS to webcast (stream) the event for those of us who cannot make it? I know that is a lot to ask for, but if it could be done, it would make the event that much better. If anything, it will certainly help with marketing for FDS, as well as show that Cockpit Builders' is the premiere builders website of the flight simulation community.
With best regards to all of you,
John and Karen :)
Sorry to hear that BSD. Have to be careful with things like that. Hope its not intestinal volvulus, which can be pretty nasty. In this day and age, they should be able to pinpoint what it is and start treatment rather quickly.
Hi Efe,
Yes, I agree and it should be determined rather quick. However, it seems that due to my other health issues, it could be any number of things that are a little harder to detect.
For me there is a story that goes like this: When I was born I was at the front of the line or close too it for brains, but I was last in line for a body, so they took old junk parts and said "here you go kid and by the way, NO WARRANTY!" In other words, I am one of those always sick kids no matter what I do...it's just my lot in life...lol.
On the serious side, the doctor says it could be nothing extreme, but since I am close to...uh, that number of half 10 plus a 0 behind it...she rather I go ahead and get the colonoscopy (CS) sooner. With me already having my Gall Bladder removed at 40, and a previous collapsed left lung prior to that (though fixed); she prefers to stay on the side of caution for the leftside of my body.
I actually wanted to go against the doctor and just come to the event, but I have Simlady there agreeing with the doctor, so that keeps me grounded.
Still, I hope that FDS will webcast or stream it, so I can attend virtually. With webcasting or things like desktop webcams, they could even use a video chat like yahoo or something like that if they don't want to do it for the whole world. Or, maybe someone would be kind enough to turn on their laptop and web camera, so I can connect with them and thereby, watch the event on Saturday and Sunday...
BSD
When I read "she rather I go ahead and get the colonoscopy (CS) sooner" the first thing that sprang to mind is:
of course, since nothing is going up her ***
Hey BSD.. Sorry to hear your going to miss it, however don't worry. Next year we should be able to put something else together. Just get feeling better. As far as Webcast... I doubt that can happen. Logistically it probably won't be able to work. However, with that being said... I will take note and see what can be available, if nothing else maybe I can just keep pictures updated on the website, and we can go from there.

Colonoscopy these days is really a breeze, so to speak :). In my last one, they put me to sleep with Propofol (same stuff they gave to Michael Jackson) and when I woke up, I didn't even know they had done it. Same thing happened to my wife when she had it done.
However, the only disgusting part is drinking the 'potion' of whatever that makes you empty your bowels the day before. By far, that was the worse part of the procedure....assuming that you wake up after the Propofol of course, and if you don't, you'll never know anyway ;D
Maurice
Do they no longer do the whole enema thing?
Mods feel free to clean up these messages once you see them. Only 3 pages and we've gone from cockpit builders meeting to medical procedures of the below the waist type.

Back Home ..!
Went to see my Mom in France.
At 90 she needed some unscheduled maintenance.
All is well for now.
Flew the maxi A380, Amazing!!!
Was spoiled to upperdeck wide seats (beds), with some time in the front office.
The bird is incredibly quiet and the three video cameras (one on tail top, one under belly, and one front are a delight to check out during all phases of flight.
Go for it Guys!
Well, glad to see the excitement about the Get Together and the colonoscopy!
Cheers Guys and... back to building and playing with the big toys.
Jack
That's great, Jack. Glad all is well on the family front, and that you got to enjoy the perks of the A380. While not really an Airbus fan, I have to admit that from the pics I've seen, the A380 is an extraordinary bird. See you in a couple of weeks!

... or maybe enjoying the summer outside in the fresh air instead of being stuck in the basement, garage, dungeon or wherever while working on their enbryonic, preemie, newborn, toddler or teenage flight decks and dealing with all the challenges, aggravations and/or problems that flight deck fatherhood brings on ;D
Maurice
Well...you can combine both, the garage door wide open, sunshine on the workbench, birds singing and mosquitoes bugging....I manage to hang up my Aft overhead , swings back like the real one for "maintenance" thanks to the FDS hinges.

Looks really nice Jack! It never ceases to amaze me how awesome these cockpits look when they start coming together.

I have nothing to post... Everything is packed up and headed to Europe. We're sleeping on mattresses on the floor. Maybe I should buy some 1st Class seats, use them to sleep on here in the US then store them until I get back in a couple of years ;D
Looking forward to next weekend though!
Are you moving everything to Europe Warren? How long will you be gone for?
Trev
Pretty much everything. I had 15 crates total. I estimate total weight including about 2000lbs of pro books and gear to be about 17,000lbs. I either maxed out my authorization or might have even gone a bit over. Oh well.
I'll be over there two to four years this trip depending on my next assignment.
Next up is to find a four or five bedroom house in Stuttgart with plenty of room for my sim and tools. Then I have to find someone in Stuttgart to cut, weld, and assemble my new base. I packed up all the steel I need. Then it's time to reassemble and continue building
For all those interested, Tyler and I will have a demonstration system with us for the interface we have been working on. We will set this up in our hotel room.

So, I can't wait until Friday and the weekend. I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone. Gary and I will be arriving at YYZ at about 15:45 and hopefully plan on being at the hotel around 17:30 - 18:00.
Where is everyone planning on meeting Friday night?
Dave C.
Hey Dave. I am just as excited. I doubt it will take you that long to get out of YYZ. I will be at the hotel by 1400 and my plan is to hang out there till we go to FDS.I will have my truck (can take 5) with me over to FDS. If you want my cell number PM me and I will give it to you. You guys should be 30-45 tops in rush hour give or take after u get out of the airport. Make sure you get a flat rate from the airport limo before you get into it. Cause after your in it they can name their price.
Once u get to the hotel and check in I can take u guys over if you want me to wait for ya. My room will be registered under my name so get the front desk to call me.
Either way we wont be far.
Looking forward to it.

Just scanning through this thread.... Who all is staying at the Holliday In Express? And we need a way to connect once we are all there.
I'm a the Holiday Inn Express. I'll be there Friday afternoon. I'll look like my avatar (without the boom headset and cessna)
Maybe we should coordinate to link up at a certain time, with an additional location/time for later arrivals
OK. Just re-read Jack's original post outlining the agenda. FDS after 17:00. Sorry for missing it. I'm also staying at the Holiday Inn Express. Thanks for the offer Trev. I am renting a car, so I will also have room for a few passengers if need be.

Man, THAT is funny ;D ;D ;D 30-45 tops??? Obviously living in the arctic has affected your sense of timing. I would conservatively double that figure especially at rush hour, which is just about any time in Toronto, especially on a Friday.
Maurice
I agree Friday afternoons are the worst, but from the airport, 407 to the 400 and north to Newmarket shouldn't nearly take more than that. LOL But its all good, it takes what it takes. We will still wait for them.
Just in case, I will be close to Pearson Airport going to FDS on Friday in case somebody needs help to get there.
Denis
Awesome Denis, do you want to meet us there or at the hotel?
Trev
For any visitors, Hwy 407 is a Toll Route and if you are in a rental you will be billed a video fee, mileage and maybe even an Admin fee from your rental provider. I'd stick to the main Hwy's, 409 to 401 then 404 northbound to Newmarket. I would allow more time to get thru traffic.
Hi Trev,
I will be on 407 going from Cambridge to FDS around 4:15 to be there around 5pm. So if somebody need ride I can pick them up at Pearson area or close.
Denis

Honest folks, we are all still alive. So much has happened this weekend and one more day. We have LOTS of pictures and even some videos! There will be lots to tell once we are all home. Just too busy to stop!
Well I am home and Trevor is about 45 minutes from his house. LOTS to talk about. All I can say right now is if you missed this, you missed a good one! Probably will not be much tonight but keep looking for the next few days.........
I just want to once again say it was great meeting all of you in person this weekend. It was a great time.

Just incredible...... I will post more tomorrow. Made it home safe and wanted you all to know how proud I was to meet you all as well. I have never been so honored to be around so many amazing individuals. Thanks all who attended for the fantastic experience.

Guys, I have created an Album in the Media Gallery that everyone can upload their pictures too. (Please use it) Select the MASS UPLOAD and upload all your photo's at once.
Works Great.
Please Name your pictures and add captions.
I will make a post with them by the end of the day.

Thank you Trev,
I am looking forward to seeing pics of you guys having fun. Unfortunately the schedule did not work for me this year. I hope we can have one next year that I can go.

Looks like a good time, cant wait to see more pics! Makes me more depressed i missed it thought! Lol. Just came home from my trip this morning. To make matters worse i could have got together with Dave C while i was in Calgary all day but he was in Toronto at the event! Lol. O well...
Hopefully Robert P and myself can host one down here in Houston for next year. We have been throwing ideas around for an event or 2.. Well let everyone calm down from this one before we start talking about another one though lol.
Hope everyone had a blast!!
