Now that I've decided to upgrade to FSX, I'm on the hunt for hi-Res, accurate, and complete scenery for the following airports:

KDEN - Denver
KSLC -Salt Lake
KLAS - Las Vegas
KABQ - Albuquerque
CYYC - Calgary, Canada

Any ideas?  I've searched high and low, and think I've covered every scenery developer I can think of without luck.

Thanks,

Warren

Try:

They have Denver and a number of other US airports for FSX

Las Vegas and Denver

There's some good freeware airports on flightsim.com (free to register)

FSX Scenery--Utah Complete v1.0, including Salt Lake City International Airport (KSLC), UT. The scenery covers most of the state and upgrades the landscape, scenery objects, airports, etc. Other airports featured include: Provo (KPVU), Ogden (KOGD), St. George (KSGU), Logan-Cache (KLGU), Heber Valley (36U), Cedar City (KCDC), Moab (KCNY), Vernal (KVEL), and more. By James Udall. (See also UTAHUP11.ZIP and UC_UP12.ZIP)

This last file includes the whole of Utah and has some updates in the other files at the end of the paragraph.

Hope that helps.

Joe.

Thanks Joe.

I've got all the MegaScenery for FS2004.  I haven't looked into whether I can use it with FSX.

I've looked through everything on Flightsim.com and have those.  I'll check out imaginesim.com.

I would say not to the Megascenery Warren, the tiles are a differnet resolution to the FS2004 version. Although you may be able to get an upgrade price, that's always something worth looking at.

Cheers
Joe.

Kind of what I figured.  Truthfully, hi-res scenery was important to me when I was flying my GA low and slow, not so much anymore.  Really all I want in detail is the airport environment...  accuracy of buildings and jetways, lighting, signs and markings etc.

The rest doesn't matter at FL400.  My VA has some great scenery for those airports, but it is all FS9.

Following up on this for you Warren, I see that Aerosoft has a version of Las Vegas available from Sim markets:

http://secure.simmarket.com/aerosoft-online-us-cities-x-las-vegas.phtml

Also Salt Lake
http://secure.simmarket.com/taburet-salt-lake-photorealistic.phtml

Also Albuquerque
http://secure.simmarket.com/newport-photo-real-albuquerque-x.phtml

But the only one in Canada they do is:
http://secure.simmarket.com/blueprint-toronto-pearson-cyyz-fsx.phtml

Some of these are Photoreal which generally don't have much detail in the airports themselves, but I thought I'd mail it over just in case it might be useful.  :)

Cheers
Joe.

Another option worth trying if you already have some nice scenery is simply to install it in FSX and see how it looks. I found this list of instructions on the FSX forum which might help. If you alreday have some experience of manual installing you probably won't need it.

Now some things to look at.

1. AFCAD files. FS9 AFCAD files provide less options than comparable
FSX files. So the question is to keep the FS9 file and try to enhance
it, live with the limitations, or use the FSX data instead. This can
be complicated if there are many changes in FSX data, such as
positioning.

2. Airport scenery. Various FSX default airport scenery may be
duplicated or misplaced relative to your FS9 AFCAD. Any exclusion
files picked up from the FS9 scenery might no longer cover the FSX
scenery. Also, in FS9 it was possible to exclude autogen with
exclusion files, but in FSX that doesn't work, you need exclusion
terrain.

3. Generic buildings should work as-is in FSX, though there is a
bug in FSX where some generic buildings float slightly or might be
slightly misplaced.

4. Model (mdl) objects should work. Some models that make use of
transparency won't show as transparent in FSX sp2/accel.

5. Ground polys. Ground texture polys made with the GMAX
fs2002 gamepack need to be no larger than about 100m on a side
or ground texture bleed through or flashing may result.

6. Terrain poly/line data. This should work.

7. There might be additional issues if FSX DX10 mode is used.

8. Some scenery for FS9 actually has a bit of FS2002 scenery in
it. This can be a problem

Cheers
