Was reading some info that Xplane 10 will be coming down the chute soon. Is there anyone using Xplane successfully in a cockpit? Its supposed to work with PM and XPUIPC is out for it as well. So, curious about the overall usage of it?

Additionally, you're supposed to be able to import add-ons (aircraft and scenery) for MSFS into Xplane. Has anyone done this yet?

Funny, have been into Xplane up till version 7 (got version 8 and 9, but didn't install them). Maybe, 9 is much better, will try it out.

Why would we do this? Well, it leads back to "flight models". Yes, yes do know this has been talked about a lot, but if Xplane is supposed to have the best flight models, and the scenery is now catching up to MSFS level why not go that route?

After redoing computer after computer and getting the fastest CPU (okay, if I72600K is the fastest right now) to chase the MSFS dream, MSFS FSX will never suffice at the end of the day. Do you think MSFS Flight "Game" oops, mean Simulator ...will be any better?

Thus, the question is there anyone here, with a cockpit build, who has switched from FSX to Xplane 9 and can comment on the Pros and Cons?

Watching those videos sure looks inviting...

I had version 9 and FSX on the same sim.  I gave Xplane a very honest try but personally, I don't like it.  The model isn't any better than FSX and in some ways worse.  The new pmdg plane shows that fsx limitations can be overcome.  Ground effect, drag, etc;   I tried over and over to set-up my controls in xplane and they sucked everytime.  I have watched many many 737 cockpit videos and I watch how much they move the yoke in all parts of flight.  In xplane even with sensitivity at the min. and null zone set correct, the 737 would barrel roll at only 10deg deflection like an extra 300! Any other words, way to touchy.  I then downloaded a payware cessna 172 and piper warrior which is what I trained in and got my PPL in.  Not even close.   Just my .02   I really really hope x-plane 10 will be different!  I would change in a heartbeat.  LOL

Not to start a MSFS vs Xplane thing here.. Again. But..

I have to say ill be giving it my best shot with XPlane.  As we all know there is no perfect sim out there yet and as much as i am a fan of MSFS, i just cant stand the flying on rails effect. i get the feeling MS made that sim so anyone could fly it, its just way too easy to fly.

I do have a friend using Xplane in his sim very successfully using XPUIPC. Havnt flown it yet but im looking forward to trying it out.  Also not sure about the addons however i have heard that you can use MSFS scenery in Xplane somehow.

For anyone on the fence about using Xplane i would suggest trying it with X737. http://www.eadt.eu/index.php

First step for me is to hook up my flight controls to xplane and see how it flys after some tweaking and go from there. Ill let ya'll know

I can think of at least a dozen reasons, all of them revolving around the one question...do you want to fly or do you want to keep building forever? A few months ago, I would have been very intrigued by the prospect of a better sim, but now that my deck is close to complete and that I can fly & enjoy the flying, flaws & all, I really am quite happy with what I have.

I'm not shutting the door on anything but I will let others do all the experimentation & suffer all the heartaches  ;D

I could use different words but the idea is the same.
My previous sim was flyable if not complete and I flew it around the virtual  world; now I race to finish the new one ASAP, ...to FLY it
I could'nt care less if it is FS9, FSX, PM, SimA or else because they are all basically good and , more important, good enough for what a single pilot and personal "Airliner" is all about.

Well said Jack and Maurice,
Ive been chasing my tail for 8 years and getting tired of it. Just want to fly.
My 2cents worth.

Yes, X-plane has some great flight dynamics but with a few extra models. I tested the x737 for a few days and impossible to get it like the real one. In flight he's reacting very nice but for take off and landing trim setting and landing pitch is completely wrong. The model also doesn't rotate on the correct take off speed like calculated in the 738 FPPM (the fs9 modified 737 does).

So I'm still staying at FS9 till there's a realistic 737 for x-plane. Would be nice as x-plane has some great details and a perfect 60fps everywhere.

But again I'm also staying with fs9 for extra programs like perfect weather by active sky evolution, topcat for load and performance settings, IVAO (works with Xplane but has much less MTL), etc

Maxime.
