Good  Day Gents,
Last night I wired up my Flightcom 403 (used), and leveraged some existing personal computer headsets I had to test it out. Unfortunately the volume was low, distorted, and at times had a loud squeal. To help me isolate if the problem is the flightcom unit itself or the headsets (already triple checked the wiring), I am curious if anyone else has had this problem?

In particular, are you able to interchange computer microphone / headsets with real aircraft intercom systems, or do you have to use ones solely meant for aircraft?

Any insight is appreciated. Thanks, Steve

U Have to use GA headsets.
The best is the Telex 750
I managed to get 2 for $50 each , they tend to be offered 100-300.
Good bargains happen, be patient.

Otherwise this model is light, cheap and bulletproof
I used one for many years in  real aviation.

Hey Steve, you will need real Aviation Headsets..  The Flightcom will power the Microphone/speakers, sending power to a computer headset will make for a noisy mess.  Computer Microphones are amplified inside the computer (On the sound card)  so they don;t need external power.  Real aviation headsets need power, so the flightcom provides it.

Get yourself a couple Aviation ones...  You will appreciate the better sound quality.

Hi all,

Sorry to hijack the thread but i have a similar question.

I am building my 737 intercom thanks to the ruscool intercom cards. I would like to buy a real cockpit PA phone (see attached photo) i have found on the Airline Pilot Historical Society (http://www.oncealoft.com/).

I don't know if someone is experimented on that but i wonder if :
1) the connector wich looks like a "Jack" is a standart one, ie if i can plug it directly in a 6,35 mm Jack female
2) if, like a pilot headset, it needs external power ; may i plug it in my PC soundcard ?

If you could help me, it would be very appreciated.

Thanks a lot.
