Ok folks. I know I have seen a mode SOMEPLACE to the CH yoke that lengthened the shaft. I have spent a couple hours looking for it. Does anyone know where it is?

Nice one but not the one I am looking for. I am looking for the one that they just modified the one yoke so that the body was behind the MIP......

Not the one I was looking for, but as long as Matt does not see me it will work. Thank you.

Was it this one?

Warren,

Where is that from?  I am going to extend my yoke, and would love to see/hear more about this one.

That's my old Piper Cherokee 235 build.

The yoke was a holdover from my Cessna C172/T-41 build.

I no longer have it, but if I remember right, all I did was disconnect the tube from the yoke handle, cut and extended the wiring, and added an aluminum tube between the yoke housing and the yoke.  It was a fairly simple mod as back when I made that, my skills and tools were very rudimentary.

The panel is split around the yoke tube.  this was the hardest part to get right and I had to do some filing to account for the upward slant of the yoke tube and eliminate the binding.  A bushing (as I know now) would solve that.

Oh...  I didn't use any of the other yoke functions (throttle, switches).

All the instruments were self made, or simkits.

The Garmin 530... not to take away Steve's thunder... ;) but it preceded the GarSim...  made that myself.  There's a thread here and in the RealityXP forum that details that.

Here's some pics from the Cessna (the one that started it all...  the one that gave me the fever...)

So I have started to do this mod now.

I discovered that once you have taken the yoke apart, the shaft can be removed from the handle.  A piece of 3/4" plumbing pipe will thread very securely into the handle end.  Pick whatever length you need for your clearances, etc.  I then added a 3/4" to 1/2" reducer to the base end.  Finally I threaded a piece of 1/2 " pipe into the interior of the existing yoke shaft, and then into the reducer.  All of the pipe-plastic connections are very secure as the coarse threads readily bite into the plastic ch parts.

Next step is to figure out how to fix the spaghetti factory of wires that run through the shaft, and change the springs out for better control loading.  I have heard that rubber bands or bungies really enhance the feeeling of the yoke.

Has anyone done this and can you comment?
