What sim do you use?

I started building my cockpit thinking of FSX, because MS Flightsimulator has been my simulator of choice ever since 1982.

But after MS stopped, Lockheed came into play (actually, quite a while before that already)..... and I tried X-Plane a few times over the years. And then MSFS from the French folks happened. DCS is great too, but only for military flying.

So I am not decided yet on which to use, each has its quirks momentarily and none of them control all my hardware in a satisfying way yet.

So I am curious, if I may..... what sim do YOU use? And is there any cockpit using multiple simulator products?

:D
Best regards,
Francois

Intimidating sign...   Now all you need is razor wire and security cameras... :)   When are you going to have an Open House?

My sim of choice is an interesting one. I used to fly FSX until Microsoft forced a Windows 10 install on my system and quite literally broke E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G.

And then, Microsoft stopped work on FSX. The road opened up for X-Plane. At that time it was 10.8 or something but had progressed far enough that it was usable for me. (ie: earlier XP versions had nothing but nuclear reactors in Seattle)

THen Carenado came out with the Beech 1900 which I fell in love with.

Never looked back except for that one brief time I tried to wedge FS2020 onto the platform, which didn't go well. I know it's come a long way since then, but after watching people struggle to this day with it, the constant CTD's, the mandatory updates which may or may not break everything or erase all of your joystick configs (Don't even get me started on the Game Controller Config UI... it is the stuff of nightmares...), I'm sticking with X-Plane.

Better the devil you know...

Well, for me to answer this question is simple, but complicated at times. So, MS back to version 95 on PC, but I still have my Commodore 128 with the beginnings of Microsoft Flight Simulator starting there. Anyway, I'm still using FSX to this day.

Yet, on that same PC I'm also on P3D; got a dual boot setup (two drives for FSX and two for P3D), and then MSFS 2020 on a different computer.

I do have X-plane from 6.5 through 10. Just didn't stay with it because it lacked the eye candy, but one day might go back.

Lastly, I mentioned dual boots, that is my best advice. Setup two simulator programs, and switching between them is simple. Just go into your bios and select the boot order for whichever one you wanna run at the time.

I use P3D v5.2 and am happy with it.  I migrated from FSX several years ago and have a small fortune invested in scenery and other addons.  I like the look of MSFS and may consider switching once they figure out multiple screens better.
If P3D figures out how to maybe work with google for streaming photoreal like MSFS does, then I won't go anywhere.

Hey Jack,

Actually, I've been a serious FSX user for a long time, even after many other folks migrated too P3D long ago. Albeit, I'm currently switching over to P3D v4.5

Otherwise, everything else is just progression, we've all gone through the Microsoft or Xplane versions to get where we are today. As for MSFS 2020, that's just a setup for the future, if it ever gets here.

Like I've said many times before, flight simulation is about chasing the rabbit. Just when you think you've caught it and got a hold of it, bam it gets away and runs down a hole only for the chase to continue.

In other words, flight sim software and hardware are always changing and we're always looking (chasing) for something too make things better....

Jack is quite correct...

"Chase two rabbits, and you catch none!"

My cockpit uses A2A piper comanche software.
I started in FSX, then prepar3d v3, v4, and now v5.2

It is oficial now A2A is developing the piper comanche for MSFS. So I will migrate to MSFS when this happens.

I am not a software simulator dependent, but an a2a piper comanche software dependent.

I am still with P3D4.5 with SimAvionics for my multi-channel projection setup. There is little motivation for me to move on for two reasons....no CTDs ever and a big investment in airport scenery addons (over 125). In other words it works well for me and I am happy! Happiness can be elusive with this hobby!

I am also still with P3D4.5.

However, thinking of installing P3D5.3 in parallel.
