B727 PROJECT

The B727 Cockpit Project: A family and friends project to convert a retired B727 Cockpit Section into a working B727 FBT Simulator (for hobby use only). This project began on Jan 10, 2010 after acquiring the cockpit section of a former Champion Airlines B727 (N678MG) from Universal Asset Management (UAM) in Pocahontas, Arkansas.

It was dismantled and cut from the fuselage by the UAM team and thereby transported to its current location where it has been covered and stored for outside conditions. Although, the project is on hold until a suitable building can be designed and built to house it along with the B737 Cockpit Project, there has been some progress made to reach the final goal.

Documentation on this project is forthcoming; however, it will only be of the initial relocation event and the subsequent storage preparations. Later, there will be considerable details as to the planned size reduction and the breakdown for cleaning and restoration.

Eventually, a website concerning this B727 project and the B737 project will soon be online. Albeit, there is no intention too maintain the site as a source of professional building information, but you will be able to ascertain enough data to help you with your own personal building project, should you pursue a dream to complete a working B727 or B737 Simulator (or both).

Finally, since this is a hobby project, there are no timelines, nor requirements to meet for it to be used by the public in a private or professional (commercial) environment. Therefore, the possibilities of the project being delayed or information concerning such could be intermittent or few between updates.

Thank you,

Efe

Seems to be you got yourself a nice clean cockpit there. We've seen much worse of course, and if the price was right its even better. Looking forward to seeing it get revamped and come back to life. I hope to be able to try my hand at the more classic 727 once I get about oh 5-10 years on this 737 :P

Efe,

Yes, the UAM B727 Cockpit is very nice. It is very clean and a first hand cockpit. In other words, it came directly from the dismantling facility and not from another person's project.

Not that there is anything wrong with gettting another person's project, but getting it first hand gives more choices; especially, as to how it's cut.

You know that you could always get a B727 now while the prices are low, and then just store it (cover it up with plastic and tarps). It might sit there for a few years, but it'll be there for you when you're ready. Although, this is assuming you have the space for it...

Garys

Also some of the other cockpits you may see for sale cheaper are uncut, which is a big headache and expense so thats something to take into cosideration if your looking into Johns offer.

Thanks Gary.

Well, we got the B727 moved off the driveway yesterday and it only took about an hour to do so. Had a crane truck come and lift it up, and then the driver, my neighbor and Simlady all moved the railroad ties that are used for the cockpit to sit on. The driver swung it over and reseated it. So, now the cockpit is about 10 ft from the driveways edge, on the ties, and out of the way.

Sadly, Simlady did all the removing of the tarps, as well as recovering it, but last night her allergies went crazy, which triggered her asthma; thus, she had to miss work today. Currently, she is hitting the Nebulizer Machine and feeling like a truck hit her. I suppose with 2 1/2 years of dirt, dust and pollen built up on those tarps, there was no way to avoid it...talk about suffering for the...uh,...my ...causes, gotta say she is a real trooper!
