I have been using XPLANE v9.20 RC2 for about five months now. I use it on a very low end system, Emachines,Windows XP 2.6 Celeron, 1g RAM, 256mb VGA PCI, and 80g HDDD.
In this time I have been able to use the MSFS applications; FreeFD, PM Sounds and several other minor MSFS programs using Torsten's XPUIPC.
I have also interfaced a damaged Elite Cirrus PCATD to use with XPLANE, using a Bodnar USB card, direct to XPLANE.
There is a Plug-In developed for Simkits instruments to interface with XPLANE, which I have used successfully.
The one thing that stands out in these implementations, is that all of these programs run so much faster through XPLANE than they ever did with MSFS on what are arguably some of the most feeble computer setups in the hobby today.
And even the mighty CPU hungry engine of XPLANE can be tamed with some add-on freeware to help it work on a meager system such as the one mentioned above.
Is anyone else here dabbling in XPLANE?

Hey AK.  There isn't a doubt in my mind that I will in fact try X-Plane one day,  I just haven't the gumption to give it a whirl yet.

Please keep us posted with your progress.

Hey Ak,
yup I've used Xplane for years. Realy nice quality of reality. I just wish they could catchup on scenery more but its definitely come along way since I bought the first version. Its funny cause I talked to Austin personally on the phone back in the day, and he personally put my discs in a pkg while we were talking. Great guy, very knowledgeable. He had just bought that little scooter thing you lean to drive on with 2 wheels.
Just sayin :)

Yes, the flight dynamics are very realistic, and the simulator engine is much more realistic than the others, but as you and others say, the scenery is lacking. I understand that most FSX scenery can be used with it, maybe using XPUIPC. I don't use FSX so I haven't tried yet.
But, for me, I often fly at higher altitudes, and prefer IFR conditions, and CAT III almost each session, unless I want to "fly off into the sunset."
Additionally, my XPLANE Server Computer is fairly weak, so the "Fog Effect" is almost instant, unless I use the "Clear Skies" Plug-In.

Well, we may definetely be seeing more and more "activity" in the XPLANE pool with the development of XPUIPC. Last time I visited the webpage, I saw that users can add offsets to XPUIPC themselves! Now that seems awesome, since that brings a potential of having similar functionality to what FSUIPC provides for MSFS in not too long a time.

Let's just see how it grows. For those interested, the link to XPUIPC is: http://www.tosi-online.de/First.html

Luis, does/can your Instructor Station work with XPLANE via XPUIPC?

thanks for the link! I would love to use Xplane for the sim someday..

Actually X Plane has a instructors station built into it.

OF course, and the question still remains. It seems it would as it uses FSUIPC.

Ak,  Luis hasn't been around for a while, perhaps he is on vacation, but I would think that because Spyy's XPUIPC has the ability for you to add your own offsets, Luis's Software would work with Xplane.

The Big question is how many of the instructor station functions control FS Directly, and how many of them use FSUIPC.

FSUIPC is listed as a requirement in his software so I would have to deduce it is possible to get the two communicating.

Hi,

I think it is no problem to get the Instructor Station of Luis to work with XPUIPC if it is using the fsuipc interface.....

Lets see when Luis is back online...

Hi Folks,

Sorry for the delay in getting back... I guess life sometimes gets in the way...!

We did some tests on the compatibility between the Instructor Station and XPLANE, using the XPUIPC, and it does interface properly with XPLANE. As some have mentioned, since not all of the offsets are yet implemented in XPUIPC, not all of the features work. Nevertheless, since it seems that offsets can be added by users to XPUIPC as wished, I would expect to see quite an improvement in the number of functions that can be linked from FSUPIC software to XPLANE, and that includes the Instructor Station, of course.

We will post information here and on our website, with our findings, as more research is done. First of all, the new version of the Instructor Station has to be released... !

Best regards,
Luis
