Title: Help needed - 45 Degree 8 Step Rotary Switches
Post by: Benja on August 27, 2010, 10:40:44 PM
Hi all,

As you guy's were really helpful in helping me select my MIP kit, i thought i would hit you up regarding Rotary Switches.

The Symulatory MIP kit i purchased was supplied with Rotary switches, but they appear to be 30 degree, 12 step switches, as there are 12 distinct positions when i rotate the spindle.

Looking on Engravity's web site, they supply 45 degree, 8 step switches as part of their electornics pacakage for the various desktop panel kits and not 30 degree, 12 step. I could buy from them, but they want 10 Euro's a switch plus shipping, which seems a little steep.

Here's Engravity's switch:

http://www.flyengravity.com/page/shop/8/2

Here's the list of what is needed for the center panel:

http://www.flyengravity.com/page/shop/14/67

I have found 45 degree, 8 step switches in Sweden and they are 8 Euro's, but they have 2 different kinds from a UK supplier and i am not sure which to buy. One is a No Stop and the other is a Stop version.

Here's the data sheet:

https://www1.elfa.se/data1/wwwroot/assets/datasheets/kiGCK_data_en.pdf

Would these be suitable for my MIP and if yes, is it the Stop version i need or the No Stop?

Thanks for all the help.

Regards
Ben

Ben,

Open Cockpits do an 8 step 45ยบ indexing rotary for 6 Euro. I've searched the net and this is about as cheap as they get.  :-\

Hope that helps  :)

Joe.

Joe,

Thanks for that. I can't believe they have them cheaper in another country than here in Sweden. I will cost it out and see if it is cheaper with the shipping from Open Cockpits than with the local shipping in Sweden and paying the higher cost.

I am correct in thinking that i do need the 45 degree 8 step switches and not the 12 step switches that i received for the MIP, right?

Regards
Ben

yassoo apo zakynthos  ;D
first thing Ben is i've just looked at the picture of your panel you sent me.
just have a look, but it appeared to me that the index marks have been machined
at 30 degrees and NOT 45.
if that is the case, then the 30 degree step rotary's will match up with your index marks.
if you use 45 degree rotary's, they will not.
sorry for a short reply, but i'm not at home until the 6th Sept.
life's a beach here  ;D

Ian,

You're a star mate. You need to get back to vacation and enjoying the sun!!  :)

I will check the marks and make sure before buying anything. It would certainly make sense that Jakub sent me 30 degree rotaries if the markings are at 30 degrees.

Thanks.

Ben

Thanks for all the advice.

I now know what i have. I have 7 x 30 degree rotaries that were sent with the panels. I can use 3 of these for the N1 SET, SPD REF and AUTOBRAKE, as these have 30 degree indexing. I need 4 x 45 degree rotaries for the MAIN PANEL DU's and LOWER DU on both sides of the cockpit, as these have 45 degree indexing.

It seems that i might have been shipped the 30 degree rotaries by mistake, as he was about to go on vacation when the package was sent.

I will contact him and see if he will ship me the 4 i am missing, or if i need to buy them and he will give me a credit off a future order.

I will let you all know how it pans out.

:)

Sorry mate, I probably cleaned them out when I bought their remaining stock. I have sold a few and the rest I have  I will need for my rebuild which is almost ready to start.

I'm dismantling my sim next Friday and will be removing every wire to start from scratch, out of action again :-(
The new version will have a new MIP, 2 x FDS FMCs, Sim Avionics and FDS interface. I've just bought a bigger house to fit it in!!!

Cheers, Gwyn

Yeah mate, I should be on the move again soon.
I've bought this house - http://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-wa-ballajura-106733720 It's a big place with a fantastic 6m x 4.6m powered workshop, that's 20' x 15' in ancient arabic. You may have noticed I have been keeping my head down with Aerosim Solutions and I haven't taken any new orders for a while. I have caught up up with present orders and didn't want commitments with the UK trip coming up. I'm much looking forward to meeting Joe Lavery, Ian Sissons and Phil the panel monkey!!! Once I'm set up in the new shop it will be full on and I'll be advertising again. The first job is to upgrade my own sim and build a new B737TQ for myself. I've bought a new MIG welder for fabricating sim frames and a few other goodies too. I'll be getting a larger CNC machine as I'm already out growing the one I have now. I've also bought another new car, see - http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/ve-wm/140697-new-member-new-toy.html
We Aussies just love those American Chevy V8's in our cars, they are so sweet. We sell our Commodores back to the US as "Pontiac GTOs'", that's how I got the Chevy grille. GM rocks!!! Sorry for hijacking the switch thread - wups!!!
Cheers, Gwyn

Nice place.  Now move that dining room table out and put the sim where it should be :)
