Just a word of warning - I did the Google search and there are too many entries for "aliexpress scam". Looks like not the market site itself, but too many vendors try to use it for fraud. I need 10.5 inch display, but I don't think I will buy it from them.

I bought several 5" and 10.4" from the same company, two thumbs up! The (10.4" TFT digital LCD display panel) on the post is for the display only !!! Here's the link to the complete set display plus VGA input board:  http://www.aliexpress.com/store/600281/200611626-322079206/10-4-inch-digital-TFT.html
Lisa was very helpful and the shipping is very fast too. :)

I second that.  I bought three 5" from this company.  If you search my posts you'll see that their prices and service were outstanding.  In fact I asked around back then if anyone wanted to go in on a larger batch for a reduced price but didn't get any takers.  Lisa helped me out too.

To attest to their service, while screwing around I accidentally ripped my flat cable between the card and screen.  Lisa sent me a replacement at no cost.  While I sent the broken one back, it was eventually returned to me, as they didn't bother to pay the postal taxes for the return.  Lisa said I could keep it.

Now I have spare parts.

Again, while Alibaba may seem dicey, I have had nothing but good experiences through them.  I bought three tablet PCs, several displays, some gas springs, several Android Smart Phones, and some other odds and ends through Alibaba with no issues.  Now...  I'm not saying there aren't some crooks out there.  They are everywhere (eBay, Craigslist... you name it).  Shop smart and use the Alibaba escrow service and remember...  if it is too good to be true...  it just might be.

Thank you Philb737 and Warren!
After reading your posts I decided to buy it. I bought it Sept 5 and it was shipped next day - should be here next week according to UPS.

Thanks again,
Nick

Ok so pardon my ignorance on these types of LCD's, but don't you need a circuit board with a VGA or DVI output? Where would you get one to go with these screens?

Matt, they come with it.  The only thing missing is power.  The screens I bought (5-inchers for the CDU's) run off of 5V USB just fine.

It's less than a week since I've ordered this and 10.4" TFT panel http://www.aliexpress.com/product-gs/322079206-10-4-inch-digital-TFT-wholesalers.html (http://www.aliexpress.com/product-gs/322079206-10-4-inch-digital-TFT-wholesalers.html)  just arrived.

Very well packed:

Flying Fox, that looks a nice unit.

Can you tell me the size of the screen by length and width please. I know it's 10.4 inches but I need to know the overall size it order to see if it will fit between my FMC units. Or whether I'd have to build a new support stand.
Also is the max resolution 800 x 600?

Thanks  :D
Joe.

It's great to be able to buy the screens without their bezels at such a great price. I have seen site's where  they sell them extactly the  same but 4 times the price. My two screens I have are working great. No issues and I have them running off (USB to  VGA)  adaptors as I ran out of slots on  my graphics card.

Ahhh! Yes, Bob you're so right about the benefits of Cockpit Builders.

I like to suggest that we (almost 1000 members) send Bob and Trevor a thank you post for all their hard work and patience to keep this site going...

As for the monitor, Jack posted a link a good while back and we purchased two of them (1 is in the MIP lower EICAS). The other is a backup. The cool part is this, they're touch screen and they use ELO touchscreen software (free download-researched and install it). So, you get a 10.4 monitor that is also touchscreen.

Aliexpress also has 10.4 (and other sizes) touchscreen modules, for example I found this one:
http://www.aliexpress.com/product-gs/360363291-10-4-inch-LVDS-TFT-LCD-Module-with-Touch-Panel-wholesalers.html (http://www.aliexpress.com/product-gs/360363291-10-4-inch-LVDS-TFT-LCD-Module-with-Touch-Panel-wholesalers.html) They are a bit more expensive (however brand-new and 800x600).

Robert Panter has found a damn good screen 10.4" also on Amazon that he is going to use for this lower EICAS. It's a damn good price but VGA input.

http://www.amazon.com/PLVW10IW--Wall-Mount-Panel-Monitor/dp/B00118EM1S/ref%3dsr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1318746784&sr=8-1 (http://www.amazon.com/PLVW10IW--Wall-Mount-Panel-Monitor/dp/B00118EM1S/ref%3dsr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1318746784&sr=8-1)

Wait for his update when it's installed.

My main question is how is the off axis viewing, ie; how does it look from viewing at a side angle? Allot of cheap monitors are unusable when turned sideways or looking at them from extreme angles.

Perfect example, from the alleged 'great' one above,
Technical Details
10.4'' TFT LCD Screen In-Wall Mount - Wireless Remote Control - Power Supply: DC 12V - Clean and Professional Installation
PAL/ NTSC Auto Color System - Special Function Control Box - Screen Dimensions 11.41''W x 7.48''H x 0.98''D
4:3 Screen Aspect Ratio - Brightness: 350cd/m2 - Control Box Dimensions 1.58''W x 1.58''H x 1.07''D
800 x 640 High Resolution - Viewing Angle: 40º Up/ 70º Down/ Left Right 70º - Weight: 2.27 LBS
300:1 Contrast Ratio - Video Input: RCA VGA - Paintable Mounting Trim Included
›  See more technical details

Notice the viewing angle 40 up 70 down.  Now turn that display so it fits in the opening for upper eicas or lower, one side will ony be 40deg and other 70deg   Not enough for in our cockpits.  You would have to lean over to see it.

Guys,
Just to let you know, I saw this and ordered one of the 10" jobby's and it arrived today from China. Took about two weeks to get here from China.

As per advertised and very cheap as well. I would certainly have no hesitation in using their services again.

And thank you to this Forum that I've only been a member of for a short time. Already made a heap of changes to my ideas and saved heaps of money, too. Great work,

Frank Cooper
