I am having some issues with the OC LCD card. I am reading the manual and I get to the section where it states that I use USBCheck.exe to find out my device number. I do and notice the LCD card is @ 2048
I then insert that number into this part of the IOLCD.ini file
[ Número de periférico para el USB ]
[ USB Device number ]
deviceUSB=2048
I then start up the lcd.exe and get everything looking normal like
Host : LOCALHOST
Port : 8092
Status : disconnected ( I don't need SIOC running as im only doing the charactor test )
USB : USB running
Device : 60
Now that's the part that is really puzzling me, even I have set the device number in the ini file to what USBCheck.exe showed me, it's still showing 60 when I have inputted 2048.
Help would be great.
I just tried my LCD card for the first time and similar results. Using usbcheck gives a device of 2048, yet running iocld.exe gives a value of 26. I have not yet hooked up my lcd, but when I do, I will just change the iocld.ini device number to 26. If you check in the manual the line for the device number only shows xx hence 2 digits. You cannot do any harm - it will just work or not :)
This device number of 2048 rings a bell from somewhere, but for the time being I am going to continue as above

Hi David, thanks for the info. I will put that then into the ini file.
I was also wondering about the power source header on the board. It's a +5v I noticed. Now I am wondering if the header pins actually have that power source connected to it already regarding the PCB traces, or do I have to actually have to put the power direct from the +5V & GND it to the header pins?
Just had a look :)
The way I read it is that the header pin already has 5 volts on it from the USB power source (checked with a meter). On my board there are two single filaments of ribbon cable from the 40 pin connector which are extended to join the plug on the power header pin. These two "single" filaments of ribbon cable appear to be connected to the gnd and power pins on the ribbon cable schematic
I will therefore assume that the USB power supply is being fed through the J2 connector to the displays ribbon cable to power the lcd displays

ok Looking at the OC schematic manual I see they have to be connected up together. Right that's done and the LCD is up and running alright, but I think the LCD that I got from Ebay in which it stated was a HD44780 16 x 2 charactor LCD. Well it's just showing 16 white blocks on the screen and notthing else, I have fiddled around with the 10K and 100K pots, but no text is visible in which I made with the LCD editor.
I looked at the ebay add again and noticed this..
(Built-in industry standard HD44780 equivalent LCD controller)
Here is the piece I bought.

Did you change the display configuration in iocardlcd config to 16 x 2?
Regards
David
Yes I did Dave, I have fixed it now anyways. The LCD refresh was set to 80, I just upped it to 200ms and now I can see the charactors. I didn't get a data sheet with the LCD, why I ran into problems.
Good, glad you got there
Well done and that was a useful tip about refresh rate
Regards
David
Yes I just have to sort out a few more bits with it. It's just showing some crap text that I didnt even input via the LCD config. Also only the top row of squares are actually showing. Notthing on the bottom line are showing up
Sorry, but I have no experience on using this card. Perhaps someone else can step in here?
Regards
David
No problems dave, thanks for all your help so far !! You were a great help.
your welcome
David
Have you tried http://www.lekseecon.nl/iocards.html... (http://www.lekseecon.nl/iocards.html...) has a bunch of info regarding the LCD card.
Yes I have neo, but I found mutleys hanger better regarding the lcd kit
Where? I had a look around there when someone mentioned that site but could only find reviews for OC cards.
Here you go Neo.

Ok, so far I have not got the LCD display to show what I have written in the config.exe program. Changed the refresh rate to 200ms also used the potentiometer on the V0, so I know there is no text been displayed. Sometimes it just shows some form of garbish text on the top 16 charactor string on the LCD when it should display (1234567890123456) as thats what I told the config file to show.
I made a PCB in which it would fit neatly behind the the LCD screen, and have a 40pin shrouded header on it and the two potentiometers (10kohm & 100kohm). Now I have checked my schematic over and over with opencockpits one (Matches perfectly as I can see), and also done some PCB trace fault finding. The board is perfect, and I have used the right PIN for no.1 LCD module hooked up.
All I am getting now is square blocks on the top and half square blocks on the bottom (16 x 2 ) display
Here is a look at my board. I can't see any issues with it maybe one of your guys will spot something. Of course I have mirrored it when I engraved it etc. As I am using through hole components.

Just in case I was wrong about the device number in the .ini file - try changing it back to 2048. it will do no harm
David
I just done that and the same thing. Doing my head in now. I wonder did that chinese ebay seller really send me a HD44780 display. I have a PIC programmer here also in which I have just read the chip and then done some tests with it. All is normal and it's the same as the hex file on opencockpits also. Anyways, it can go to hell for the night, ill move back onto the PCB board I done for the USB axes card for the button matrix.
Hexpope,
Seems I don't have access to your attachment.
Could I have a look at your xxx.lcd and IOClcd.ini files as well
as your pcb / schematics / images....
I've been through the same and I may be able to help out, but no guaranty ;-)
Perik,
Thanks for offering to help me out...
I think I have sorted out the gallery permissions..
Either wise here is a zip file with both the ini and the .lcd file I am using.
Im sure I don't need to do VAR's and other SIOC stuff to test out the LCD with the config program as I have read. Also the USB LCD board I bought from OC.
Any issues with anything just let me know.
I think it pants for me now, im off to bed. It's 01:00 here..
