Title: Aviodrome Museum in Lelystad CLOSED!!
Post by: Joe Lavery on December 27, 2011, 12:02:52 AM
Sad news guys, the aviodrome museum in Lelystad, well know to us flight sim nuts for hosting the fantastic Flight Sim weekend in November has closed after talks with a new buyer failed. The result is that from the 23rd the museum is closed, it's 56 staff laid off and it's been placed into administration.
It looks likely that the aircraft collection, including the beautiful Connie and the KLM 747 combi will be auctioned off and failing a sale, possibly scrapped.

This information sent to me by another writer (Jessica Bannister-Pearce) who also works for PC Pilot.

Joe.

Quick Google translate from there home page

"The trustee announces that negotiations with a major party did not lead to a takeover of the Foundation's National Aviation Theme Park Aviodrome. The party that goes back several weeks it was spoken stated that the necessary financing through a bank unattainable.
The Aviodrome will, as of Friday, December 23, 2011 at 16:00 temporarily closed to the public.

The trustee is now investigating other ways to achieve a new start. Simultaneously, measures taken to an auction"

Fingers crossed they can find a solution soon

Things looked grim when the FSWeekend was on. Speaking with staff, they held little hope. This really is a shame as the museum is really well done and worth seeing. I hope they find a way to keep the place afloat.

situation has been grim for years unfortunately.

The aviodrome was fully depending on government and KLM funding, having only a few paying visitors throughout weekdays. Both parties have redrawn their funding recently.

Visitor numbers on FSweekend were not the standard, but a multitude of what they would normally have throughout a week.

Being an aviodrom supporter, it hurts seeing this happen and i fear for what will happen to this dutch aviation heritage :-(
