Title: start stop button aand VGA/DVI
Post by: jackpilot on March 20, 2012, 06:11:43 PM
1)As the lower left part of the monitors is hidden behind the mip is there  a way to assign a shortcut to the start /shutdown buttons  to be placed in the middle of the desktop?

2) monitors have two plugs going to the PC , one VGA normal, the other one larger and white (DVI ?). Is there any advantage using one or the other
I know I should know, but I don't!

if that's what you mean.

for the purpose of displaying instruments there is no difference to notice. I have two 24" LCD monitors on my desk right now, one DVI and and another  on VGA - I would be damned if I can tell the difference.  :o

Jack,

I don't know of any way to power off monitors via software, sorry. I moved the buttons PCB to the back of my monitors so I can access them, but don't normally as they power down when I shut off the main power anyway.

For the quality between VGA and DVI, it depends on the LCD. I have a Dell screen that shows no difference. The Samsung's I have do though and this I have used in the MIP so chose DVI. Strangely Dell's screens are made by Samsung, go figure!

Regards
Ben

Jack,

Do you mean the windows icon (start menu) button thing is hidden behind the MIP, so clicking with mouse is imposable as u cant see it, not the actual monitors power button?

If so cant you just configure the power button on PC for one press shutdown instead?

Jack,

Not sure if I understand why you need that, but a very easy way to power down a PC if you can't see the Start button is to create a text file named shutdown.bat and place it on the desktop. All you need to write in that file is the following:    shutdown -f -s

After that, you just double click on the file and the PC will shut down.

But I would think that you should also have a way to access any PC remotely in case you need to change anything as opposed to just shutting it down. Don't you use a remote desktop program such as RealVNC or TeamViewer for instance?
