Title: Rapidly reaching end of my rope
Post by: Maurice on September 11, 2012, 03:38:50 PM
A short while ago I asked for help as I thought I had a bad memory module. But it turns out it's not a memory module, it's the f....g motherboard. I tried every combination of modules in every possible slot and the only common thing is a bad memory slot since no matter what I plug into it, it is not recognized.

Now, I have been very vocal about my woes with this PC but I've kept going somehow since the alternative is not very pleasant. But this latest bout is really stretching my patience to its limit. Since I built that PC 2 years ago, I replaced a 240GB SSD drive, an I7-980X CPU, a GTX 480 video card (which it turns out was not necessary) and now very likely the motherboard, which of course means re-installing everything one more time.

To add to this, one of my projectors is on its way out. So far, I've lost about 50 pixels and it's getting worse every day. Since this is a discontinued model, I don't even know if I can get it fixed but that's another story.

Anyway, just venting rather than dismantling my simulator starting now. Tomorrow is another day and hopefully my mind will be a bit clearer about what I should do although I'm very much leaning towards the termination of this white elephant once & for all.

Sorry to hear that Mau. Can I suggest taking the system back to default speeds and no overclocking. The memory controller is on your cpu with this system and if its not working right then you will start to see issues like your seeing now as well. Its just another away to pinpoint where the problem is. Having had a CPU fry and now a bad memory slot it does suggest a motherboard or powersupply issue as you must be getting power surges through the system to cause this shit to happen.

Thanks Gary but I just edited my original post. It is not the memory module after all.

Just a thought, maybe it has been the motherboard the entire time. I have been wondering about this for a bit now.
