Joe.
Hey! My seats came from these cockpits...yes, cockpits, as they cut up 10 of them. Now, I wish I'd purchased the cockpit as well.
John
Not like you to miss a bargain John... ;)
Joe.
Believe me Joe, had they been cutoff when I was there I'd have it at my house. Still, it was nice seeing all 10 planes lined up ready for the cutters. They were removing engine cowling/shells from the wings back at that time...sad to see it being cut in person though, it's heartbreaking.

Yes, I know what you mean John. I live not far from RAF St. Athan near Cardiff. Quite a few years ago I was visiting my brother-in-law who was in the RAF at the time; we stood and watched as they used a JCB to chop up three F4 Phantoms. One of my all time favorite aircraft.
Very sad to see, I think particularly with a warplane that did such sterling service to end up like that. :'(
I wish I'd had enough money to buy a cockpit then, they were selling them for £500, all you needed was a truck to take them away. They told me it would save them the trouble of disposing of them. Although, unlike your wife who I believe is an avid simmer, mine would not have been happy to have the front end of a plane in the garage... :(
