Title: Dimensions of the sub-components of overhead
Post by: usafgadget on March 01, 2013, 02:08:08 PM
Hi all,

I've searched but can't find anything so I'll ask.  Anyone have the dimensions of the sub-components to the overhead panel? For example, the fuel control panel. I'm building a proof-of-concept for my next overhead but I want to be able to remove/work on individual sub-components so I need the sizes for every one on the overhead.

I assume you are referring to the 737 overhead.

I've attached a zip file that has an autocad file from the Opencockpits download page, a sketchup file of the same file, and a document by Hessel Oosten, from The Netherlands regarding panel sizing and such.  That should get you going.

Hi Warren,

Thanks for posting the attached Panel.zip file.  This opens up as a Solidworks eDrawing, which cannot be converted into a drawing file .dwg

Do you have a version of this that is a .dwg   or   a .dfx ?  Thanks.

BTW - I use AutoCAD14 and AlibreDesign.

Hi Mike.

The zip file contains the dwg.  Is it not opening correctly?

I use TurboCAD and Sketchup

Just downloaded it and looked at all three files. Works perfect for me Warren.

Thanks Warren (and yes I was talking about the 737---dooh!)

I do not have a CAD program so I went looking elsewhere.  I ended up with a rough layout that will work.  I'm working a building an overhead using square aluminum tubing as the frame and sheet metal for the panels.  Low tech but better than the plywood I was using, which was too thick to and cumbersome for securing switches to.  I post some shots later once I have something to look at.

FYI - Concerning downloading some of these CAD files that are posted...  If you don't have a CAD application, here is a link to one that is free, which supports .dwg and .fsx file formats, as well as others.  I have used it and it seems compatible with AutoCAD.

The reference scale is in cm but this should help
