Title: Cole starter diode
Post by: fly_ebos on August 28, 2013, 12:28:55 AM
I obtained 2 real Cole starters and found schematics showing I need to put a diode between X1 and X2. I apply 24 volts. Does anybody know what kind of diode?

thanks
Thomas

That's the one I supply my starters with. Works perfect!

The diode supplied with the Starter Switch assembly is a critical part of this assembly.  It should be installed close to the solenoid when wiring up the Starter Switch.   Although the circuit may work for a while without the diode, there will most likely be negative impact to other circuits and/or operation due to the electrical spikes generated from the Back EMF when power to the Solenoid is turned OFF.  Over time, this could lead to damage to the contacts on the control relay used to turn ON the solenoid.  I concur that the value of the diode is adequate for the job.

Nice job on these Switch units Anders!  They certainly add realism to the start sequence.
