So if I'm going to build this speed brake lever (and flaps) I've found out that it's best to use a pot and assign the zone for each position with FSUIPC. I'm just wondering how can I create it so the lever only goes in the RET, Half and Full positions and not just sit in between and the same for the flaps but obviously in the various positions.

You need "gates".
you may find your own way to do it by using basic hardware.
You may use springs to hold levers down in a notch.
(See diagr.)
Also, use sliders instead of rotary pots . that way you do not need gears (See diagr.)
Plungers are also handy, see pics.
Hi jack!
Invaluable help again. What are the name of those plungers? I can't find anywhere to buy them!
Thanks,
Sam

Plungers are similar to a "bales catch". Do a search on Ebay
Here is one

Check for a Fastnal store in the UK.
And an even better one on UK Ebay - found with a search for "spring plunger"
