Title: Multi Monitor Setup
Post by: Masterploxis on January 11, 2014, 08:43:39 AM
Hi Guys,

currently my setup has a matrox TH2GO digital with 3 projectors for outside visualization. On the other Output of the Graphics card i have a normal monitor. I run FSX in full screen mode (alt+enter) on the 3 projectors. The problem i have is, that when i run FSX in full screen mode, it blacks out the forth monitor which i would like to use for instructor station or to see the Airport charts.

The Matrox setup utility configured the 3 projectors as one screen and the monitor is a second screen. So why is the second independent screen blackened out when FSX goes to full screen mode ?

I am cannot run FSX with a stretched window mode, because Immersive View 2 lite (for warp and blend) seems to need the full screen mode to work properly.

Any advice is highly appreciated how to get the second monitor available for charts, Squawkbox, prosim, instructor station showing up.

Hi Andy, its a basic function of FSX when in Fullscreen mode.  FSX will take over all monitors when this mode is selected so the answer to your question is that you can't run an instructor station on your 4th monitor unless you run FSX in Windowed mode.  Depending on the instructor station software you run you can run it on a second network PC or laptop.  Squawbox can also run on a network PC as can charts etc.

Is it possible to attach a TH2GO and a DH2GO to 1 graphic card and then have 5 outside views for fsx?

Yes.  I got it working but it was very shaky.  It took upgrading firmware, both had to be digital, and the newest software.  Drivers were also an issue.  Performance was terrible.

As I said, I got it to work but every time I rebooted the system I had to go back in and tweak it.  I gave up.

Now I run a TH2Go for my outside visuals on one head, with the second head feeding my lower EICAS screen (as my main monitor with the taskbar etc).

I run a second TH2Go on a second system for the Left/Center/Right DUs on one head while the second head runs my EFB.

Finally I run DH2Go on a third system for my two CDUs on one head, while the other is connected to a monitor next to my IS.

What the hell...  I have a fourth system that functions as my IS with a touchscreen monitor.

Ok so you had to install them both, the TH and DH ?

One instance of the software.

Each monitor (3x1, 2x1) was set up in the software.  That is where the issues started.  It was as if they were competing for primary monitor.

Ok Warren, just for clarity when you say second head. Do you mean a second card or the second output on one card? Thats where the OP is having his issue. The second output is taken over by FSX and "blacked" out And I too thought this was just how FSX did things.

Second output on the card.  I also suffered blacking out.  When I did overcome it, it would be back when I rebooted.

As I mentioned, I just gave up

Andy,

I have tried to use a 4th monitor off my Nnivida 660 GPU which has the Surround Feature  built into it thus eliminating the requirement for the TH2G.  But the card tries to use the same resolution it does for the 3 projectors and you end up with a very wide image being displayed on that monitor. The result is a very squashed and unreadable image.

Project Magenta and SimAvionics software provide an instructors station which operates independently from the FS X image.  I'm just re-verifying that and if any change I'll let you know.

If you run ProSim. you can just log into the instructor station using any networked monitor or device.

I personally use an ipad with my EFB and have IS running in the background.
ProSim IS has moving map and pushback built in as well.

Hi Frank, will the Prosim737 instructor station run on a Galaxy Tab 2??

Hi Gwyn.
No reason why it shouldn't. All you need is an active internet connection and be logged into the network that the main PC running ProSim is on.
