I know a few of you have converted real instruments, and i'm wondering if anyone has ever tried to clean the scale plate of an instrument before?
I am converting an RMI, combining parts from 2 different units and using stepper motors to drive the needles/heading indicator.
All works perfectly, including the ADF/VOR switches and all the flags found on the NG RMIs.
My question is that i want to clean the face of the heading disc, as it has a few fingermarks and things on it, but I don't want to risk damaging the finish or the markings on it.

Anyone had any experience with what cleaning products to use for this?
Cheers
Good ol' Windex or Fantastik usually do !
A word of caution - Do not use metho! It will turn the white markings pink.
I generally just use a little dish washing liquid and water mix. Nothing in there that will have a nasty reaction with the paint.
hi gentlemen,
in the good old days the technical guys in the radio shop used with water diluted vinegar, as this did not damage any paint or markings.
Regards, Kurt
Thanks gentlemen, i'll try those on the spare face i have and see how it goes.
If it all turns to sh*t Mick I can engrave you a new one!!
Cheers Gwyn
