Thanks Warren,
Made for very interesting reading.

Its' always been my dream that I'm on a commercial 737 flight and the head stewardess makes an announcement looking for someone who knows how to fly the plane because both the pilot and copilot were incapacitated due to food poisoning caused by eating airline food leftovers. It would be fun for me (maybe), but you really would not want to be a fellow passenger on that flight if that ever happened.
Seriously though.....Do you think the FO would have let a volunteer help out if his only credentials were flying a home simulator and he was the only option on board????? Or would she have shut the door and concluded that it would be best to go it alone?

Fred,
I think most of us simulator pilots have asked that question at one time or another.
But in reality, I doubt they would allow a home simulator pilot that chance. Putting one of us in that situation would be a big risk since there is a HUGE difference in flying in your cockpit at home and being placed in a real aircraft in a very stressful predicament. You can imagine the adrenalin flow you would have, the stress level, fear etc. Would a real pilot want that kind of person sitting next to him? Help or hindrance? Hard to say!
