Just wondering what type of increase I will see in FPS going from PMDG's 737NG to a FDS flightdeck with Sim-Avionics DSTD+.
My guess is a lot... since the Virtual Cockpit really eats up the frames.
Hi Mike, it really depends on your configuration. Is FDS Providing you with the SIMA Software on another computer? Because in all reality the Main FS Computer should be reserved for just that. You should be running the Avionics on another computer.
Basically the more you can get off of the FSX Machine the better performance you should see. But If you are still going to run the same aircraft, just not in the VC modeI don't expect you will see more then 5 to 10% MAX

PMDG was never intended for a full cockpit integration.
It can be done, with tweaks, but at a great framerate cost.
If you use an external avionics software (instruments +aircraft systems logic) like SimA, Project magenta,Prosim etc, you cannot use PMDG logic which would conflict with the avionic soft. So the only think you can keep is the flight model. Which could be another source of mismatch.
This is why the above avionic softwares have developped their own flight models wich are finely tuned to the soft. Accordingly you will use the SimA "airplane".
The most effective configuration is a High perf computer for FS networked with one (or more) PC exclusively for the logic and display of the avionics.
This will relieve the FS PC and allow a very fluid FPS.
Hard to set a percentage but the improvement will be huge.
Gonna have to disagree on this one as before I started my current project I ran the PMDG 737 on one PC with 2 video cards and 4 Displays! I also had real overhead parts and with all the switches interfaced to the PMDG 737 FLuid 30FPS except on P3D where in stormy weather it would dip to 20 but was still fluid smooth. I have run Project Magenta, and ProSim in the past but i can tell you this, NOTHING touched the PMDG NG in realism, ease of operation, and dependability! I have run 5PC set-ups and everything in between. My advice. Use the PMDG 737 exclusively and live a happy worry free sim life. The others will ALWAYS involve networking headaches, data drop outs, and plethora of other issues with the complexity.

I plan on having at least three I7's running, here is what I have and what I'm planning on getting.
1. Have: Intel Core I7 X980 Extreme - Will be used to inject weather (ASN)
2. Getting an Intel Core I7-4790K Processor - Will be used for Sim-Avionics
3. Waiting on Intel Skylake Processor - Will be used for Prepar3D
I may add another computer if I'm not happy with the performance of Sim-Avionics, but from what I've been told... this I7 should run everything just fine.

Any of the i7 machines you have will be more than enough. If I were to build something out of what you have, I would use i7-4790K as the P3D machine and then use the i7 980 machine for everything else. No need to have a i7 980 only for ASN and to give you an idea my secondary machine is an i5-4xxx (something) with 8 gigs ram and it is not even close of being exhausted. I would recommend you to buy an awesome GPU instead of a new CPU since P3D is GPU aware. As others have stated using Sim-A will reduce the burden on your primary machine a lot anyway so not sure if you will actually win anything with a new CPU.
