Title: Ethernet Splitter
Post by: iwik on April 25, 2015, 11:59:24 AM
Hi,
Have two Pokeys Ethernet modules that I need to connect to my switch. Don't want to
use two cables back to the switch. Any problems with connecting these using a splitter.
Appreciate any comments.
Thanks
Les

If you mean a hub... should be no problem.

Les, you can't use a normal splitter to connect these to your switch with the one cable.

What you can do however, if you cannot run another cable, is to fit an Ethernet splitter to both ends.

Normal ethernet cabling uses pins 1&2 and 3&5.  What these splitters do is use the other 4 pins to allow 2 separate ethernet circuits.

You can also just fit 2 plugs to both ends of your existing cable if you have some RJ-45 plugs and crimpers.

Thanks Guys,
Think I will just add another cable. Cheaper and a little less messy.
Cheers
