Title: Setting up my flight sim
Post by: mswift on September 10, 2015, 08:55:05 AM
Hello
Thought I would just post some of the things I have done in setting up my flight sim.
I upgraded my old PC and tossed out the ram and GTX580 GPU and a couple of hard drives and replaced with two more SSD's.
One for Windows.
One for FSX and Prosim
One for all the FSX scenery
A 2Tb HDD retained for apps and general stuff.
Replaced existing ram with 16Gb Corsair Dominator RAM, the GTX580 with a GTX980 GPU (two more GTX960's waiting in their boxes for future use).
Kept the RampageIII Extreme mobo and i7 980 Extreme processor.
The biggest change was going from Win7 Pro to Win10 Pro and the main reason was the ability to refresh windows if required without affecting any installed programs.
So far everything is working like a dream except I did note that FSX did stop working a few times so now running in Win7 compatability mode and no further problems touch wood.
The system is very very responsive so pleased so far.
Eventually I will add another PC to share the Prosim workload but the single PC seems to be coping well with frame rates between 30 and 50 according to FRAPS.
Hope this gives others a few options.
Mike
