Hi All.

Only last week I ordered the Opencockpit's SST device, based on budget. One thing I know is, it uses their SIOC scripting programme. Can anyone tell me if SIOC is easy to use/understand. I know this maybe a hard question to answer if you don't know someone else's capabilities, but I mean can average PC knowledge use it or does it require programming knowledge?  I have read in other forums that people find it hard to work it out.

There definitely is a learning curve that is involved and the instruction manual is not always very clear which is frustrating.  However all that is needed are basic mathematics skills and a good sense of logic.

My recommendations are to read through the manual a couple of times to get a sense of the whole....definitely do not try to understand it all at once.  The important thing is to familiarize yourself with the manual as a reference tool to know where to find the answers to the many questions you will encounter.  Then simply jump in and start experimenting with writing some basic on/off switch codes to get a hang of it.  You will see that you will quickly get the hang of it.  Then gradually move on to more complex items. 

I was very frustrated at first but gradually gained an understanding to the point that now I find it to be actually fun experimenting with different ways of doing things.  You will find that it is a very powerful programming tool once you get on to it!  Do not expect to learn it all in one day though.

Personally I find it much easier to write the code as a text script rather than using the software menu approach. The text script will automatically translate to the program script when you launch the SIOC module.

As with most computer programs the only way you can learn is to jump in and experiment!

Ditto to what Fred said above and I will add this.  Try it, if you need help, just ask and we will do our best. But it is a steep learning curve but well worth the effort.
