Title: FAA Relaxes Standards for BATD & AATD
Post by: Boeing Skunk Works on January 20, 2010, 07:32:26 PM
Check this out: http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgAdvisoryCircular.nsf/list/AC%2061-136/$FILE/AC%2061-136.pdf (http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgAdvisoryCircular.nsf/list/AC%2061-136/$FILE/AC%2061-136.pdf)

I believe some of us here could get their sim certified. Mine misses on a couple of points. I think all of our's miss on the magenetic compass requirement, but it wouldn't be impossible to install one. I think FI or Seagul offers a magnetic compass.

It's hard to see in this photo, but my father designed (and we still manufacture) a working magnetic compass for the simulator company we're a supplier for.

Unfortunately we're not able to sell it however.

(The other highlighted areas are a few of the other bits and pieces we build and supply)

Nice Dean, I would love to see a picture of just your compass.  In reality though, Rob Archer has had good success with the servos, I would think if you connected the "Compass" to a single servo it would work like a charm.

I seem to remember any of the compass on the market to be very very expensive.

@Mike,

Thanks for this information bud.  Very good reading.

Hi Trevor

Yeah, that's not a spectacular photograph is it? :-[

Here are a couple of pics of one of our pre-production compasses ...

When we supply them, they're mounted behind a panel with only the front protruding, so we unfortunately don't have any more interesting or informative pictures than this.

Dean.

Great looking compass. Too bad you can't sell them, you'd have everyone here buying one.
