BugEye was made of three monitors side by side and was not bad at all assuming you do not move your head too much. Suitable for a desktop sim.
This system is supposed to cover a complete sphere, so I think it is more sophisticated.
I played at one time with fresnel lenses and I must say that it really adds a sense of depth, like a collimated system.
Big TV fresnel do not work well though and I could not locate large enough correct  lenses. Max I could get was 2'X1' in that grade.
But it is true that placed at the right spot and angle they delete the monitor frame.
