Title: AP Disconnect Nuance
Post by: AngeloC on March 22, 2016, 08:22:45 AM
Hey guys this will probably be an easy fix for all the veterans here but I need a little guidance. I mapped both yoke AP Discon buttons to the FSUIPC offset for Project Magenta AP disconnect. It works and everything is hunky dory. The problem is when time comes to re-engage AP it will not. The easy fix while in flight would be to cycle the MCP AP Disengage bar, DOWN and the back UP to I guess reset that bar in the software.

How / what do I need to do to get the AP yoke discon to send the message to cancel the AP via the yoke switch and not that bar so we can simply press CMD A or B again without having to cycle the bar.

Also side note, would anyone happen to know how to slow down the rate of pitch trim change when using the trim switches on the yoke. It changes way too fast and makes fine small trim adjustments quite hard.

Have you tried cycling the flight directors?

I have a big clue from what you have said about your trim function. AP will not re engage unless the aircraft is in proper trim or very close to it, try tweaking your trim to find the zone where the AP will engage again. I have adjustable trim rate in my sim that works with my auto TQ, I adjust it to calibrate my TQ indicators with the Prosim trim indicator. Trim rate is set to an FSUIPC offset which makes it adjustable, I will look up the settings the next time I have the sim running. Cheers Gwyn

Hi,

make sure you use the correct offset, 04F2, and send value 99. Any other offset to disconnect AP is wrong to use!

So in FSUIPC I press the button I want to use, it shows up. Select tick box for FS Control. Select "Offset Word Set" in the dropdown. Type in 04F2 in offset and set 99 for parameter. I did all that and nothing, now the AP wont disconnect at all. Do I need to edit something in notepad for FSUIPC to see this command?

Just a thought; when trying to re-engage the AP, make sure your yoke is centered I don't think AP engages otherwise.

Okay, I think a couple of you guys are misinterpreting what I am saying. The issue is not the autopilot re-engaging after a disconnect due to system misconfiguration or flight control deflection.

The issue is the actual command sent to the PM Software through FSUIPC. If I look at the 2D image of the PM MCP when I press my physical yoke disconnect button what PM reads is the MCP Disengage Bar DOWN. So when pressing yoke disconnect the MCP bar is pushed down and then REMAINS in that position. Thus my having to recycle our physical MCP disengage bar on the physical MCP itself. That will return it to the UP position and then allow CMD A or B to be re-selected.

So my actual question is, How can I assign the physical yoke button to send the command AP Disconnect but not using the MCP bar to do so? That is what I would like to clear up as it is not realistic to have to re toggle the MCP bar down then up to reengage AP.

I am not on my PC now so I cannot check for you exactly but like you I have assigned the yoke button to "Toggle AP" using:

In FSUIPC and assign the button to "FS Control" and choose "Toggle AP" or "AP OFF" or "AP Disconnect" (I do not remember the exact words) from the long drop down list, no "Offset" just the actual command, you can set the parameter to 1.

Alternatively you can choose the "Offset Word Set" from the drop down list and then define a variable to use in Prosim737 (assuming you are  using Prosim737) to the switch that controls AP OFF:

In FSUIPC (Buttons and switches):

Press the AP disconnect button on your yoke
• Check the "Select for FS control" box
• Select "Offset Word Set" from the list
• Set the first offset to x9094 and the parameter to 1

The Control sent when the button is released:
• Select "Offset Word Set" from the list
• Set the first offset to x9094 and the parameter to 0
• Press "OK" to save these changes

In Prosim737 configuration, Switches page:

Scroll down to "AP Disconnect Yoke Cpt Pushed" and set it to "FSUIPC 8be U" and write the "0x9094" variable name in the box.

Hope this helps.

I am using Project Magenta. So your info immediately above the prosim config variables is the one to use for PM?
