Title: Windows 10 Anniversary Update - Minor Annoyances
Post by: FredK on September 16, 2016, 05:10:47 AM
Ever since the Windows 10 Anniversary Update brutally forced its way onto my sim computers I have had to deal with a couple of minor annoyances.

There are 3 programs that do not automatically launch on startup anymore even though their corresponding exe's are in the startup file...P3Dv3, FSGlobalReal Weather, Fly Elise.  For each of these programs the UAC shield now appears on the desktop icon.  I have UAC set at the lowest level.  Being that I am using WideView for my visuals (running on 4 computers) I now have to go through 12 icon clicks to get all that running.

Based on my web searching I see that this is generally a fairly common  program for many WIN 10 users in general.  There are work-arounds that are offered (including by Microsoft) but frankly they are very laborious and involve changes to registry areas...and in some cases following those directions has led to disastrous results and some very nasty words back to Microsoft (that cannot be repeated on a family-oriented website like this). So I just do not want to go there.

The other minor annoyance is that FSUIPC (that is WideFS) does not work unless I have my firewalls completely disabled.  I do not worry too much about that since my sim computers are 100% dedicated to sim use. The only annoyance is the Firewall warning flag that pops up each time I launch Windows.

I have no special anti-virus programs running other than the embedded Windows Defender.  UAC is at the lowest level.  I have set the corresponding file locations as exclusions.  All firewalls are now disabled.

Anyone else seeing this?  It is not the end of the world....but I do waste about 45 seconds of my life every time I crank up the sim now, and I am getting to an age where every second counts.
