Title: Strange vertical cloud (or something) P3d/ASN
Post by: Caflyt on January 25, 2017, 03:14:49 PM
For ever it seems I have always had this strange vertical "cloud" over the horizon. It was there in FSX also if I remember correctly.
It is always in the same place ....heading 300 from KFLL to KTPA.
Does anyone know what it is and if there is some way to get rid of it?
Maybe someone could see if it is there on your system...take off from KFLL and head to KTPA and see if it is there over the horizon.

Finally getting tired of seeing it

Looks like the Milky Way :)
Defective projector?

Heading is 070. Looks like the. Aurora boreal aka northern lights almost.  You don't have that in prepar3d though lol.

Nat and Trevor, thanks for your input (not so much from Trevor  :o)

Nat.....Its not the projector as I see it no matter the display and it is at a fixed point in the sky, Your "Milky Way " explanation may be it.

Trevor....heading is 300* as seen on the PFD

The time was approx 19:15 local (ET) and interestingly enough, the brightness of the effect diminished over time as I neared KTPA.
Almost as if the sun (over the horizon) was lighting the formation.
Maybe there is a good explanation for it but it has become annoying.

If one of you could replicate the flight from Fort Lauderdale Intl. to Tampa and see if it is a sim thing or maybe something in my particular setup i.e. P3d with REX clouds using ASN 2016 for weather etc....I would be interested in what you see.

Hey Craig,

That is the Milky Way replication and I am curious by the amount of stars showing and the brightness, if you installed the "night stars" app? It was a small program on AVSIM that would allow you to manipulate the stars, adding the "Northern Lights" as well as a few other features.

In the past, FSX did not show them bright enough, thus the app, but maybe other companies like HiFi ASN or REX have written this into their program. Check you night time settings.

John

Edit: here is the link to Star App...called AutoStar:

Here is another program to checkout:

http://flight-sim-jewels.com/night-sky-enhancement/ (http://flight-sim-jewels.com/night-sky-enhancement/)

This is for FSX and P3D; I don't use it, but I do use the AutoStar for FSX and have no issues...

Please remember to first virus scan any programs you download like this, it's the small/quick ones that getcha! You know, that small addon that total kills everything...we've all had it happen at one point or another...lol ????

John, I have REX texture-direct and have not installed any other stars program. Thank you for that, I will look into it.  I am also using ASN 2016 for my weather.  Stars are a little too bright for me anyway.

Trevor, your posts are always amusing. I knew that's what you were looking at so just wanted to re-direct your Canadian eyes further south.

I am sure that it is the depiction of the Milky Way but I will look into ways to improve that with these other suggestions.  Not sure why they used something similar to a cloud texture instead of a grouping of stars for the Milky Way.

Hmmm....the shining light phenomonon that Craig is describing seems to be in the location right above Sam Llorca's simulator in Sarasota.

.????

I had Northern Lights showing in FS9  at high latitudes. No add ons.

Yup! Thanks John,
It is the Milky Way.
I replaced the MilkyWay_lm.dds texture with the one that came in the night sky enhancement package from flight sim jewel.
Looks better but it is way too bright so maybe I can tone it down a bit with GIMP or something.
