Title: Running GTX1080 and GTX710 together
Post by: iwik on January 28, 2017, 10:22:20 AM
Hi,
I need to add a Gtx710 to my system which has the main card a
GTX1080. i assume this is going
to make the 1080 run at x 8. Is this correct and if so i have read that some say that currently there is not much difference in speed.
If it does can i expect much of an decrease in performance from
the 1080.
Appreciate any comments.
By the way i am compelled to add this card to get a VGA output to
run my external GPS module. I tried a HDMI to VGA adapter(active) but it was unsuccessful.
Thanks
Les

Les, whether the 1080 runs at 8x on the PCIe is a function of what motherboard you have.

So you're just adding the 710 to get a VGA out for a GPS module..?? hhhmmm, I would seek an alternative means - perhaps another machine? Let's face it, nothing about this hobby is cheap, I might consider a few extra bucks for another dedicated machine, IMO

Thanks Randy,
Yes it appears if you use another slot then both are reduced.
Had considered another machine but need to spend another $150
to get a networked version. Will try it and then look at my options.

Would a USB VGA Adapter meet the requirement?

Had forgotten about those. Will give it a go.
