Title: Overhauling Seats
Post by: Speedbird17 on March 30, 2010, 06:36:01 AM
I have a set of Cockpit seats that are in need of TLC. Anyone have instructions/manuals/advice on how to repair/overhaul/take apart seats from a UAL 737 circa 1973?

Thanks

I did that with two 1011 Weber seats (different from yours, they do not need J Rails)
Simply e mailed the manufacturer explaining what I was doing and they downloaded the manual.
Otherwise remove all removable plates, belts, switches, adjust levers, etc
Spray with a car engine cleaner to degrease, rinse with water hose, let dry.
Sandblast or sand manual.
Paint, usually some grey auto primers do a very nice job as they fill well and are matt.
Clean and replace accessories.
PS: Usually the armrests can be rehupholtered easily with black simili  leather.
Remove the old material, use it as a template to cut the new one , mostly glued.
For the cushions, better have them made by any pro Upholsterer, who can supply new foam if missing.
I do not like sheepskin so it will be leather nicely stitched.

Let me know if you are in need of the original fire retardant Boeing gray material pattern.

It's $50 a yard (if the price hasn't risen) and you'll need two yards.
