Will the Engravity AFDS units work with FDS SYS boards? I can't think why not, but would like to know before I order up.

I'm thinking a SYS1X for the overhead and a SYS4X for the MIP. Any SYS board users got any other advice before I order them?

Seems that you can. The info I've found at FlyEngravity says that the AFDS module need a 12v power connection. There's some relays on the board that can work with any interface with at least 2v output. So it seems that the SYS cards would work fine.

Why not use the FDS ones in stead? Cheaper and designed to work with the sys cards.

I already have the Engravity ones in my Engravity MIP. Got them connected to the CPFlight board at the moment, but was toying with the idea of switching that to a SYS board for the sake of parity.

I ask because the AFDS modules come on a PCB and was unsure whether anything on that PCB tied it to the CPFlight board. Or whether they are just LED's and switches that can be connected to anything you like.

Okay! Yeah, if you have FlyEngravity MIP, you'll better stick to their stuff. :)

If you have the CP Flight board for the MIP, I don't see why you would switch to SYS cards. It would be nice to have ONE interface solution for all your needs, but that's not going to happen I think.

But use the SYS cards for your overhead and other switches and annunciators. Can't go wrong there. I am going to use the SYS card with relays for controlling backlighting, start cutout and so on. As for backlighting, the SYS relay card will probably control other relays in order to separate the different areas. I have the FDS MIP, and it uses 5 volts for backlighting. The overhead uses 12 volt, since it is backlighted ol'school. One single relay on the SYS relay card could send 12 volts to a relay used for a car's extra headlights. The car relay could then be fed any voltage needed, and I can use one relay for 5volt, one for 12 volt and so on.

But stick to the CP Flight MIP board if it works and covers your needs. :)
