Is this what we have been dreaming about?

Just saw this offered on the SimParts website.  If I am reading the specs correctly it appears to have an impessive throw ratio of about 0.5.  It is full 1080HD. I made an inquiry to gain better clarity about all that.  Priced a bit expensively at 1490Euro but appears to be a custom designed unit.

Jack -

Nice sleuthing!  It looks the same and the specs are exactly the same so that is it.

ViviBright is a purely Chinese company, and I quote from their website......

"VivaBright know that theres long way to go, recognize that China's mess of projector market"

So who here is going to be the brave one to test the waters????

GDay Fred...

They're 0.60 Ratio. Not sure where the 0.5 came from?

Hi guys,

One of my friends purchased the ViviBright last year and did some image testing with it that was shared with the manufacturer.  I have summarized the info in the attached PDF document for those who have an interest.

Cheers,

Thanks for the information Jon!

I gotta say, I'm confused as hell about all of this.

I'm in the market now for three of these units, but I'm not just jumping in, I want to get the right thing.

I know that the short throw thing is important, as it dictates how close or far you have the unit to achieve it's largest potential picture.

What I don't understand is why .5 is so important compared to .69 ,which I now understand, ( thank you guys) is what the Benq W1080ST projectors are.

My sim room is 3.2 metres wide, so why does .69 cause such a hassle?
Even if I mount the projectors in the middle of the room, won't I have 1.6 metres of room to project, so it's well outside the .69 limit.

An average room must be about 3 metres wide, so how can you go under the 1.5metre mark anyway?

Sorry if I'm missing the point here, can somebody please enlighten me?

And also, so are the experts saying that the Chinese Sisy projector not cutting the mustard? Would the Benq be a better proposition?

Hi Frank,

The issue is one of shadowing your scenery by having the shell of the sim get into the beam.  If you have a high enough ceiling such that you can clear the shell the throw ratio can certainly be longer.  Alternatively, you can project a smaller image on your screen and keep the bottom higher off the floor to eliminate the blockage.  It's all a series of tradeoffs between what your projector is capable of and the room clearance you have.

Cheers,

Jon

Thank you, Jon, that makes perfect sense.

Jon,

I'm wondering if good blending software can fix that loss of focus at the edge of the image?

Just a single projector was tested and against a flat wall so no testing was done with multiple images and blending.  I would guess it would not help as fuzzy plus fuzzy does not equal sharp but will have to defer to others who may have done such testing.

Likewise, you really can't get a feel for the actual contrast ratio until you overlap two units and see how close black plus black equal grey.
