Hi guys,

I just recieved two audio control panels plus two Collins adf panels. The audio panel is straight forward wirering, soldering and interfaced pretty easy. No big deal here.

But I do have a few questions about the use of this panel, and the way it works in real world.

If you take a look at the photo i've attached of the audio panel, my questions are:

The selector wheel in the middle (nr.1)
Is it correct that it's the transmitter selector?

What does two first detends mean (OXY INT and SERV INT) and in which situations would they be selected?

What happens when i turn the switch further to INT (nr.2)?

I guess VHF-1 will be the radio i'm transmitting on, and VHF-2 comm 2 obviously.

Now the switches on top of the panel
Is it correct that these switches control what i'm listening to?
Ie. if VHF-1 switch is on, i'm listening to comm 1. If 2 is on = comm 2.

How do i recieve both comm 1 and 2? Simply by turning on both the VHF-1 and VHF-2 switches?

What about nr. 4? The PA. When is it used and how is it used?

I allso need a little clarification on the nr. 5. OXY, BOOM

What determines when the green lights on the top is illuminated?

And finally, what's the difference between V and R in nr. 6? V is voice identification of the adf station (i believe?) and R stands for range, but when is R ever used and to which purpose?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can anybody give me a description of the functionality and how to operate this kind of ADF panel (attached in photo2)

That would be very much appreciated! :)

Thanks,
Lasse

Hi,

I'm kind of new on this forum, but saw your question and thought i could answer some of it.

I've build a 727 simulator and sold this project to the Aerospace engineering department of the Technical University of Delft, Also I am a Avionics Maintenance Engineer in training.

Now I'm not 100% on most things but lets start off,

- Yes I think it's the transmit select, you can only select one channel which seems normal, I could not see a reason why a crew would want to talk on for example
   vhf 1 and 2.

- I have no idea what the 2 detents could be, could be maintenance test selections?

The toggle's:

- Yes for audio selection but it would suprise me if the pilot could listen both vhf 1 and 2.
- Listening too intercom from cabin
- Oxy Boom selection will switch from the microphone in the oxygen masks and boom mic on the headset.
- I think the lights are just on/off indication lights

Now the ADF panel, will be pretty difficult to interface.

The tune knob on mechanicly moves condensator plates further or closer to eachother. This changes the  characteristics of the condensator which will influence the frequency. The indication drum is also mechanicly attached.

Again i'm not really sure about the audio select panel, I will take a peek in some F-28 training manuals. Maybe have some more info for you next week!

Greetings

First two from what I see OXY INT = oxygen mask intercom/ microphone for input. And the second is Service Intercom = regular mic jack. Is there by chance an inner ring to the knob so that either radio could be piped through OXY or service?

Just my thought / guess.
