'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the attic,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a flight sim addict.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that P3d v2.1 soon would be there.

The scenery DVDs were nestled on the shelves,
While visions of Orbx danced in my head;
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash
XPlane was hovering there, willfully taunting me,
With tales of wonder and of simming bug free.

Alas I heard all this before,
On numerous visits to a flight sim store,
Try it for free they would say,
While hoping I would be their new prey.

But up to now my resolve did not fade,
And I resisted the temptation to trade.
Too many FSX memories in my head,
And no desire to tame another purebred.

P3d may not yet be ready for prime time,
But the previews look totally sublime.
Holding my breath and keeping optimistic,
While others still remain fatalistic.

So many choices with no clear winner,
But hoping P3d will not be a bummer.
Flight simulation live long and prosper,
With all the choices vendors now offer.

I really need a life ::)

Hey Maurice,

You really should switch to RC Planes! You get instant gratification and don't have to worry about bogus flight simulator company claims...that everyone has been chasing, those false dreams of a real "working" flight sim program and not a "fix as you go" flight sim program.

Speaking of a working program, look at this:

http://www.realflight.com/products/index.html

I've been using RealFlight RC program since 3.5 and I am now on version 6.5. Most likely I'll go to version 7. Why the upgrade changes? Mainly, to get new airplanes and features for different airplanes I fly and radios I actually use.

Finally, you can fly online with others and you can even get photo fields to fly on. Yep, a guy in my area shot all 5 RC club fields in the 4 counties they're located in, and now you can fly with RealFlight right on those fields and you'd swear you're really standing (or sitting for me) on them. And, if you're remotely talented with a camera you could shoot your own flying area(s) for yourself or other RC pilots that you may know...

Otherwise, here are the best two websites to start out with:

Hey Maurice - very creative.

Looks like the poetic side of you is showing.  But I think it is more the critical theorist philosopher  in you that is coming out.  I wonder if you are still sitting in the snow bank contemplating the finer aspects of  Hellenistic thinking wrapped in a Stoic reflection on the true nature of creating a Simulator, and whether in reality that a true simulation exists.  We are in fact all in the same boat...  ;D

Have fun sorting out your new direction.  Fact is, you don't need a new life - you just need to get back to what you have been blessed with to begin with.  I encourage you to re-embrace the challenge of life and tackle a new Sim Project so that others may benefit from your wisdom and expertise.

Happy Holidays!

Well John, this does look like a lot of fun but it's definitely not for me. I am 100% sure I would love it for about 30 minutes or less then get bored with it like all the other video games I tried over the years. Being aviation related is not enough to sustain my interest.

Real RC flying on the other hand has more potential but I have never felt any urge to actually try it although I love watching it live and even like watching it on YouTube videos. For me, it's more like a spectator 'sport'

Anyway, have no fears, I have a few other interests to keep me occupied if I ever decide to drop flight sim, but thanks for the suggestions.

Have a happy & safe holiday season,

Cheers,

Mike,

I was actually just pondering why the heck we moved to Muskoka instead of moving to a more Southerly destination. Yes, the snow looks beautiful but I would gladly export it all to Australia since they are getting too hot over there  :)

As far as starting a new sim project is concerned, shoot me first.  ;D . This hobby is in good hands and certainly does not need my meager contributions at this time anyway. Plenty of other pioneers including yourself to carry the torch.

So I'll just gladly watch from the sidelines and throw in my 2 cents from time to time when the forum topics get too serious and boring  :)

Very best wishes for the holiday season and thereafter,

Maurice
