For those of you with FDS SYS boards and a cockpit shell:

I was trying to find a good location to mount my FDS SYS board.  Can't find enough matching holes on the CDU base and with three LCD mouting brackets I can't mount it lengthwise on that back tray, so I bought a piece of wood and fashioned a mount for it next to the center LCD.  It doews stick out a pit, so before I wire it up and take a chance it won't fit properly in the shell, I thought I would ask.......  Would it work?

Here's the pic:

Why not mount it vertically (parallel LCD, facing in) so that the longer sides are also parallel the floor? You can mount it on a board and mount that on the main structure with hinges so that you can pop it back towards the nose when you need to do maintenance or check connections.

Jack,

My CDU base is a lot different than that one in the picture.  The tray on mine slopes at 45 deg and has two power supply mmounting cutouts.

Efe,

Interesting idea.  Hmmmm

Yes, I was soldering LED's after the baby went to sleep.  Now trying to entertain 4 kids and do some wiring!  Wife is gone till Tuesday night.  Sigh

Here is how I did it John, right or wrong it worked out perfect for me.

OK, I moved it.  This looks like it will work.  Already have the PS mounted on the upper mount and just need room for a few distribution blocks.

I'm now in wiring hell :)

Its not that bad, just takes quite awhile to solder and shrink tube each connection.  I had one bad connector plug for the Annunciators (thankfully I had more) so far.

I wired up the F/O and Landing Gear Anuunciators last night, then fired up the SYS software.  OMG what a joy it is to use.  Easy to identify any of the LED, then assign it a name.  Downloaded the associated file and assigned it to the Annunciator and bam, time for the next one!  Loving these SYS cards!

I made the mistake of trying to just wire up a few more things before bed last night since all the kids were asleep.  I picked the Capt Glarewing as my project.  So off I go taking it back apart to get at the wires more easily.  Disassemble everything real nice, figured out the sixpack wiring quickly and added my extension wires to it, wired up the switch behind the sixpack then started scratching my head on the Warning and Caution lights.  Looked back at what Scott had sent me and then to clarify I dug around on the FDS site.  The wiring diagram they have for the separate sixpack they sell is different than what is mounted in the wings, but the warning and cautions are basically momentary versions of their "K2" switches, so with some further digging I found the wiring diagram.  Purple and Blue are the switch, green and white the LED's black is common.

Got it all back together on that side at midnight and was too tired to wire it to the card.  I'm getting there and its certainly very nice to see it lighting up now.

Big thanks to Scott and Roberto for sending me pics and helping me catch up to them :)

.....and further thanks to Steve and Peter for making a great board to go along with thier awesome gear (and putting up with all my dumb questions) :)
