Foreflight which is probably the premier EFB for the Ipad now interfaces with X-Plane.  Haven't tried it yet but it sounds' like it's going to rock.  For those of you that have an Ipad and don't have Foreflight, you're missing out on a great product.  Well worth the dough.

Best,
Matt

I should really stop lurking in this forum. I really hate when someone brings up something better than what I have but still affordable. I really think ignorance is bliss  :)

But to get back to the topic, had you ever tried the AivlaSoft EFB before and if you did, what made you switch to Foreflight? Is it really that much better than AivlaSoft?

Also, I think there may be a big drawback from using an EFB geared for real pilots. Since I assume the charts used are more current, they will not necessarily match with the Navigraph updates we get for our sims. So we will not be able to use more current procedures if our FMS's do not have these procedures since we update the FMS from Navigraph data. Am I wrong here?

Thanks,
Maurice

Actually, after reading more about it, I find that the AivlaSoft EFB is a better deal overall since it gives airport procedures & diagrams for all the airports. Foreflight is limited to US airport procedures & the basic plan does not give airports diagrams.

So, all & all it is still AivlaSoft for me since airport diagrams is one of the things I like most about the EFB and I need procedures for the whole world and not just the U.S. :)

Wow, that is awesome news Matt.   I love Foreflight.   I have US and Canada and it has all the bells and whistles including preferred ATC routes, weather, etc.   being able to actually connect it to X-plane really adds another layer of icing on the cake.   Also helps me in my decision to do X-Plane.  It seems it is growing by the day.

I keep my Nav database up to date regularly with navigraph so everything is in sync.   It does have airport diagrams also Maurice.   But we shouldnt worry about which is better than the other...the good news is we have great choices these days....

The new runway Proximity thing is cool.

Just saw it this weekend.  Flew to South Bend and was taxiing to depart IFR to Muskegon.  As I approached the runway I got the warning, then another warning when I took the active.

Foreflight keeps getting better.

One word or warning though, don't renew early, they don't prorate, you pay full price and they give you a credit for your balance at the next renewal.
Less than 4 years to retirement......

Maurice-

Yea I don't know that product.  It is definitely expensive with the subscriptions.  I might check out the one you're recommending.

Cheers,
Matt

I had a chance to see Foreflight in action when a buddy who has it came to fly my sim. It is definitely superior in many respects but beside the cost, Foreflight is only for North America and I tend to fly outside of N.A. most of the time so I really need the AvliaSoft system instead. But it sure would be nice having both products.  :)

This isn't an IPad app Ryhs. You load the software on a separate PC or laptop and you use Air Display to display it on the IPad. The Ipad becomes a separate monitor that displays what is on the PC where you loaded the software.

The PC where AivlaSoft is running needs to be connected to FSX via SimConnect and on the FSX PC, there is a small program running as well that sends the data to the PC running AivlaSoft

Works like a charm :)

If you have a tablet PC you could run it without Air Display or an Ipad. You would just do as Maurice says and install Avilasoft EFB on the FSX computer, and then the tablet would have the reader portion.

Avilasoft EFB can be used in two ways. First, you just use it on the FSX computer while FSX is running; you would switch between windows or if you have multi monitors, you would see it on your additional monitor. Second, is you have it on the FSX computer in the server mode, and then on a different computer is the client/reader portion. You will be using SimConnect to communicate back to the server mode.

This server/client method is better because it saves resources on the FSX computer. If you have ASA or ASE weather, it works something like that when two computers are used. Anyway, the Air Display is a program for the Ipad that makes the Ipad be seen as a second monitor for the second client computer. Why do this? Well, if you don't have a tablet PC, but have an Ipad, you can use it to place the power of the EFB in your hands inside the cockpit like real airline pilots are doing now days.

I have been using Avilasoft EFB for a year or two, and flying without it would be no fun at all. I still have all the Jeppsen paper charts, but rarely use them; especially, since having Navigraph updates, which include Avilasoft EFB, there is no need for the paper charts...
