I evaluated Opus about a year ago and came to the conclusion (if we are talking only about multiview 3 screens  using one PC features) - it makes no real difference compared with common methods.
Can be different for 3 PCs setup. With one PC it still uses the 3+1 views approach and setup is more cumbersome (at least it was a year ago- however I did not notice any difference looking at the latest Opus manuals). FPS were not any better at that time. I did not evaluate the weather engine and other options.

A couple of months ago I compared Opus FSX with WideView for my 3 projector 210 deg. FOV setup. I use 1 FSX server and 3 FSX client machines for (full screen) scenery only. My conclusion is that WideView (together with WideTraffic) for my configuration does a better job in terms of a far better synchronisation between the 3 images. Moreover, WideView is more dedicated to multiple PC usage: e.g. very handy add-on menu inside FSX (available via my server service monitor) and lots of parameters to optimize performance and behaviour. Particularly "IntelliSmooth" does a great job IMO. FSX weather can also be synchronized but it is not real-time. HiFi (AS2012) said that they are working on that. Opus FSX does also have great real- time weather but overall as a cockpit builder I prefer WideView.

I use Opus for my weather engine and not for the camera feature. In my opinion, its weather engine is better than Active Sky 2012. It uses whatever texture files that you have in FS X. The depiction of the wx is done differently than AS 2012 or REX and it loads up much faster.

Having said that, I used the trial version of FS Global Weather a couple of weeks ago and it appeared even better than Opus for the short period of time I was able to use it. But I did notice that as the weather appeared to be changing, short and very brief flashes appeared on the screen.  Not sure why his happened and haven't taken the time to see if this is an ongoing problem or something that happens with an evaluation version of the software.  FS Global apparently uses a totally different engine again than the rest of the wx programs.

Real World weather does synchronize in WideView.  I always use "real world" weather in FSX and find it actually synchronizes better than when using selected weather themes (I know the manual says otherwise but such is not up-to-date I think with more modern computer hardware). I think the reason "real world" weather works better is that every 15 minutes (or less when you fly into a different weather station) the weather gets refreshed.  It is not perfect but does sync 90-100% of the time.  The major issue I find is with individual clouds, not overall weather patterns (for example, cloud layers etc.).  Frankly, I rarely even notice when things are out-of-sync. I am using the default FSX weather.

Thanks very much Fred. I'll give it a try. I'm actually mainly focused on AS2012 because I used it exclusively before I decided to switch to WideView for frame rate reasons. Therefore I still hope HiFi will come out soon with a multiple machine FSX/P3D version.

I used to use OpusFSX, but gave up on it because I had continuously bad stuttering on my clients that couldn't be resolved.  I was also patiently waiting for their Live Traffic addition, but it seems to have slipped to the bottom of their priority list.

I am now using Wideview and Widetraffic with a dedicated server not displaying views, and it is pretty smooth.  Widetraffic itself though is jerky, and I can't seem to get it adjusted. I am trying to use MyTraffic Pro with it though, so that may be the problem.

I am using FS Global Real Weather, and I really like it a lot. I find that it represents what I see "outside my window"  more realistically than the other addons I have. It loads fast, and has a simple interface which I prefer.

I have wideview set to "By Weather Interpolation" and it works pretty well. I do get some weather injection stutters on the clients from time to time though. I don't get any injection stutters with "By Multiple Nearby Weather Stations", but the weather on the clients will not automatically update when the server updates. I have to do it manually.

Bernd, the developer of FS Global Real Weather gives excellent support, and is going to try and find a way to add support for multiple PC's so it can be used without going through Wideview. I tried it with a simconnect.xml on each FSX machine, and a multiple PC simconnect.cfg on the PC outside of my wideview network that I have FS Global Real Weather installed on, and checked the option in wideview "Do not update weather via WidevieW" but it only injected weather to the wideview server PC, and not to the the client PC's.

Hopefully Bernd will be able to make this work!  He said it probably won't make the next update, but he thought it was a good idea, and will work on it.
