Hi, I am Alan Hill and I recently purchased a motorized throttle that is German made - and I am looking for assistance to get it functioning properly with a current version of FSX and PMDG 737 NGX, although someone just recently told me that it might be better if I used prepar3d with iFly 737.

The Throttle is the SimHard motorized throttle and although it came with cables, 12v power supply and some software, I cannot understand it and I am becoming frustrated trying to get it to work. I have also been told that the software was made for fs9 not FSX but I am not sure if that is true.

The throttle obviously has motors and I believe can be made to work through PMDG's SDK facility but a knowledge of C and C++ programming is required and I do not have this.

Open Cockpits have told me that the throttle was developed by Hermann Hummer and I have tried contacting him but nothing has come back from a 2004 post on a forum site (not sure if that was ever a good idea given the age of the post).

According to OC, the throttle uses their USBDC Motor Cards but there is also a card for the switches on the throttle. Whatever the solution, I am simply a duck out of water here and I need someone who knows what they are doing to help here. Maybe this could be done online, by phone or even face to face if distance permits but the little hair I have left is getting thinner lol. I work long nights and this project that I have established is just going nowhere (I am sure others will be able to relate to this particular challenge).

Is there anyone out there who may be able to help me to produce the necessary scripts to make this throttle work? I will obviously be prepared to pay for a successful solution to this challenge.

The SimHard Motorized Throttle Quadrant can be pictured here......

I may also be looking for some qualified assistance with setting up my whole simulator if there is anyone out there who may be able to help with this ???

Please get back to me if you can help

Regards

Alan

Hi Alan -

The first thing is to find out and confirm exactly what cards are resident in the TQ.....

Download and install the SIOC IOCP software onto your computer from the OC website.  Connect your TQ to the computer.  Then run the SIOC software module......In the opening screen in the upper right corner you will see a list of all the OC devices resident.  My guess is that you will find two OC cards.....a master and a motors card.  The SIOC IOCP instructions will then explain how to configure the sioc.ini to properly identify the cards.

That's the easy part.....next you will need to have a SIOC script.......

Do you have a SIOC script file that was provided with the unit?  If not, you will either need to (1) locate that script or (2) adapt an existing script (such as the one I wrote for my TQ and available on this forum) or (3) write your own custom script.

I do have a hard copy of a TQ script that was written by Hermann Hummer. It is dated 8.3.2008. It identifies a website address (www.simhard.eu.tt) that is no longer active.  So it does appear you will be on your own for this part.  The script is fairly complicated since it seems to bracket specific applications for both FS9 and FSX, PM, PSS Airbus, PMDG, Level D, etc.   What sim are you flying?  I can mail a hard copy of the script to you for your info if you PM me your address......sorry, but I do not have it in electronic format and it is about 25 pages.

However, the bottom line appears that you will need to write/adapt a SIOC script specific for your application I think. SIOC can be daunting at first look.  It requires some patience and time with the learning curve but you really do not need to be a genius to figure it all out.

Hi

I fully support what Fred has just written, however, I have a copy of that Hermann Hummer script in electronic format. As Fred suggests the script is a "work for all" version and you can strip out a lot to suit your flight sim model. If you PM me with your private email address then I can send it to you.

Unfortunaltely there's no "Like" button like in Facebook here (:) ),
button David Bullock deserves a "Like" for his consistent willingness to help others with SIOC.

Thanks for the kind thoughts  :)

I was fortunate many many years ago to be involved in computer programming which has since helped me understand SIOC. So I am always happy to help or give guidance on something that is often viewed as "black magic"!
