Status on new Sim Room, 737-800 Sim/M6dof Motion Plaftorm...

Hello All,

It's been a while since I last posted the status on the construction of the new Sim room for my 737-800 Sim and the 6dof Motion Platform.  I had a bit of a setback medically for a while, but I am now doing better and can continue work on the Sim related projects.

Well...   The building construction is now complete and the extra space is a welcome addition for continued construction of the Sim and its motion platform.   I am now in the process of re-organizing the space.   Of course, I had to make reassembly of the Sim a high priority, and fortunately, it went back together in its static mode without any problems.  It now sits next to the 6dof Motion Platform location, which is mounted to its new 12,000 lb. concrete anchor system.   Fairly soon, I will be working on the motion platform's Upper Platform, which will support the Sim Flight Deck.  I have quite a bit of work to do to get this finished up, and most likely it will require many more months of design and construction.   Hopefully I will have the Sim/6dof Motion Platform completed sometime early next year.

I should mention that I am using two computers for the Sim - one high-end computer for P3D with a single GTX980, and a standard computer for the Sim-Avionics 737-800 flight model.   I recently installed the FlightIllusion Boeing Standby gauge set (Attitude, ALT/Press/IAS, and dual RMI VOR/ADF gauges), which adds a nice touch to the MIP.   All is working  statically just fine, and the 220 degree wrap-around projection system with the Optoma HD1080 projectors continue to give a nice display.   

Below are some photos of the new Sim room, which is connected to my machine Shop, and the adjacent Sun room connected to the Sim room.  The Sun room will also serve as a Guest room, so you have an open invitation to visit to fly the Sim.

It is totally amazing how far you've come since starting this hobby! I remember some of your first post and now too see your post today, I'd give you the most OCD..uh, I mean dedicated...builder award easy. And here I thought I had that award in the bag.

Thanks for the kind words guys.  This Sim project has been quite a road to travel...   

Even though my Sim is still in its static stage, it is still loads of fun to fly.  In fact...   I'm enroute right now from Polermo, Italy (LICA) via Rome to Insbruck, Austria (LOWI).  The scenery with ORBX Global Base is quite nice with P3D.   Thanks Fred for the encouragement to change over to P3D from FSX - the move was well worth it.  P3D performance has been great with a significant increase in reliability.

Regarding the new Sim room...   The power is routed from the main panel under the concrete floor to the Motion Platform base.  I have four 120 VAC 20 A circuits, two 240 VAC 80 A circuits for the 3-phase gear motors, and conduit for data cables.   I also have made provisions for the TripLite IP Cooler to route cold air into a manifold to provide cooling to the flight deck, motor controllers, and computers.  Thanks again Fred for the tip on the IP Cooler.
