USB Jetmax TQ and Yoke Disconnect from PC when using Sismo Overhead

A strange fault seems to have developed in my sim setup.

When I use the Sismo overhead including some switches like APU START, GND PWR ON i hear the windows disconnect device sound and can see often my Jetmax TQ and Simujabs Yoke disconnect and then reconnect.

I can also reproduce the disconnect by wiggling the 5v power, the 12v backlighting or 5v servos power jack plug connectors. Or I can even reproduce this by wobbling the overhead (or touching the metal casing?)...

It never used to do this so either my PC and it's usb devices have become sensitive to electrical interference or I guess I've developed a fault. However the overhead operation shows no signs of fault and functions correctly.

The devices are in different power extension leads and go to different sockets but guess they may be all on the same breaker.

The odd thing is if I connect the Yoke and TQ to my 2nd pc i can't reproduce it.  My main PC has a Corsair 650w gold PSU and the 2nd pc is Running a stock psu 350w.

I've ordered some ferrite beads for the usb cables to see if this helps.

Could using a powered usb hub help?

Any advise or experience here that could help me?

Mark,
Without knowing what your USB connection setup is it hard to say what is wrong.
But when ever using uSB you must ensure that the max current taken from any port
does not exceed .5A.
You must be care full when using a hub that the power feeding the hub is sufficient.
Some hubs with so many ports but will not have a power supply sufficient to supply
the max of .5A per port.
It could be a powered hub will help. Have you added more gear to the usb bus?
It could also be an earthing problem. Probably would help if we could see how you usb devices are connected to the pc.

At the moment my pc1 has the following usb connections:-

Simujabs Yoke
Jetmax TQ
Saitek Rudder pedals
TFS iVibe (seat vibrations)

I've not added anything new since my overhead.

I don't have a usb hub at the moment. These devices go straight into the motherboard.

If I do have a earthing problem how do I even start to find out where this is and how to fix it?

Would it be a earth problem with the overhead, the pc or my house?

Hi Mark,

It's unusual to have earthing problems here in the UK because the regulations are fairly stringent. Unless of course you have an older house with old wiring. The current Issue 17 systems provide safeguards that do not allow the system to work without a constant earth. They will simply trip out. 
So I would suggest it's a USB issue not an earth one. You would be advised to get a powered hub (a decent one, not a Chinese cheapy) which may fix the problem.

Fingers crossed it's not a house issue then.

I will be happy if it's a usb Issue.

I guess that explains why my pc used to be ok and now it isn't but my other pc is fine and it doesn't happen.

Interestingly though my saitek pedals don't drop out, just my TQ and yoke.

Do powered usb hubs come with a level of protection then to ensure dropouts don't happen?

Mark,
I go along with Joe's suggestion, try a powered hub.
Lack of power to the usb devices and their design can lead to dropout.
Important to get a good brand, i have used industrial grade ones.
