Hall Effect sensors

Does anyone have any experience with rotary hall effect sensors to replace potentiometers.  I'm talking about the ones in a housing similar to a pot, not the sensors that look like transistors and require earth magnets.  Something like the attached

Thanks Mike.  I did see that, and that is what got me looking at those sensors.  I imagine they will function just fine.  I would hope for $40 they would function great though.  I was just wondering if anyone had actually bought any and used them before I become the guinea pig.

Warren, I bought some about 7 years ago as a replacement kit for the Thrustmaster Cougar Throttle that a guy named CubPilot was selling (He sold the same for the joystick, but I bought a Strain Guage kit for that).

The Hall sensors have functioned flawlessly for 7 years, never spiking and no dead spots.  With the old pots I used to have to remove them, clean them and relube every six months to remove the spiking issues.

I'm diving in then.  The 90 degree ones are easy to find.  Having a hard time finding a 270 degree one for the yoke and a 180 degree one for the tiller.  We'll see what pops up.

I just found them for $28 at allied electronics.  Picked up two 90's and two 180's.  The 180 should work on the yoke ailerons due to the gearing.  That will set me up for both pots on the yoke, my tiller, and even my rudders!

At the end of the day what's the point of forking out the money I did on yokes, rudders, and tiller if I have to worry about pots.  It normally wouldn't be a big deal to pull them and clean them, but I hate pulling up my deck

Excellent point Warren, most places are charging a huge premium on parts because of our niche market only to use the cheapest components from china. Pretty disgraceful really.
