Hello.

My projectors arrived today and i eagerly setup the Nthusim demo, aligned the grid and started up Fs9.

However, I just cant seem to get Nthusim to warp the images. I did download and upgrade to version 10 of DirectX before i started on this process. I know Nthusim is doing something, its just not warping the images the right way though.

I am attaching pictures to this post so that I can explain the problem better.

[I tried to embed the pix here but couldnt get it to scale properly]

The following picture is without Nthusim running.

Here is the other one with Nthusim running.

Any help will be appreciated.

Regards,

CPJ

Hey CP,

I'm back in town so give me a call whenever you want.

Didnt want to bother you too much. But some of the excitement  and eagerness to get this going has just begin to erode because i cant this thing to work.

No point spending a month building a curved screen, not to mention becoming a geometry expert, refreshing my knowledge of degrees and radians, and drawing 10s of CAD charts, when finally I cant get the image to  render correctly - :-(

A little disappointed... will call today.

Ok

We'll figure it out.   Dont get discouraged.

This looks more to me like a TripleHead setting than an Nthusim problem. Does your Matrox setup look something like the picture below or does it show 3 separate screens instead of 1?

#5
Maruice - it was a TH2go issue. Not a setting though... the analog device cant handle the resolution of the projectors.

Here is an update...

For those looking to use FS9, TH2Go and Nthusim – Please note the following -

a) If you have a Th2Go Analog from over 5 years ago (I was early adopter and bought mine in 2005), it will not work. What i have known is that the device was limited to 2400 x 600 (3 800×600 devices) when i acquired it. Thereafter Matrox released an utility known as the Mode Extender Tool that allowed 4 extra modes to be enabled on the Analog device. One of them was the 3072 x 768 mode.

Despite the fact that i now have 3 projectors which allow 1024 x 768 resolution, the TH2GO analog device does not enable 3072 x 768. Try as much as i did to update all of the drivers, the software suite – the max resolution it brings up is 2400 x 600. This was one finding. Not sure how this would impact Nthusim (i.e. whether Nthusim requires a minimum resolution to work).

b) Since this resolution wasnt available, when i went into FS9 options, it would not allow me to select a resolution greater than 2400 x 600.

c) Upon trying a TH2Go Digital version and plugging it in – firstly the resolution became available on the PC. Secondly, when i brought up Nthusim and started FS9 in full screen mode, Nthusim warped the images correctly. Of course, remember to set the matching resolution inside FS9 via FS9 options. It will not do it correctly if they are not matched.

d) FS9 will not warp it windowed mode. Not sure if this is possible even in FSX, but it certainly does not work in windowed mode in FS9.

So two things learnt -

1. TH2Go Analog version (at least the early ones) do not offer anything greater than 2400 x 600 and hence will not work. A digital version is needed.

2. Nthusim warps FS9 correctly only in fullscreen mode.

Thanks,

Ok, nthusim won't warp the image in Windowed mode for either FS9 or FSX (at least not in my experience).  I use Sol7 which essentially is nthusim with added blending options but warping is the same, therefore you have to run FS in Fullscreen mode (this should be the preferred option for cockpits anyway).  FS9 works a little differently to FSX with Window vs Fullscreen but I can't remember what those differences are at the moment only that FSX handles windows a little better.  You might get clearer advice over at the nthusim forum if you haven't already tried.

As for the Analogue TH2GO, I have an old analogue version which quite happily runs at 3840 x1024, it was purchased in 2007 so maybe earlier versions didn't, however they were all designed for 3 monitors each running 1280 x 1024 so should work at your resolutions.  I would be checking my video card and drivers also to see if they weren't the weak link.

I also believe that they should work. But it does not. All of the information on the Matrox site also seems to indicate that they will not work. The video card is not the issue because the same video card does fine on a digital edition.

Indeed my Th2Go was purchased back in 2005, so it very well could be thats the reason. If you could help me with one piece of information I can validate whether my setup is correct although its been running with that setup for well over 6 years on CRTs.

Here is the question - When you open up display properties through control panel and go into Settings - what display adapter do you see?

----------------------
Does it say - Matrox Th2Go on <ATI RADEON>

OR

Does it say <LCD or Projector model #> on <ATI RADEON>?

-------------
This is one thing i do notice is different when i plug in the digital model. It begins to say Matrox Th2Go on ATI RADEON.

On my Analog version it says ViewSonic 5352 on ATI RADEON.

What i think is happening is that the system is not detecting the presence of the Th2go as a display applicance. Given that it is not detected, it continues to show only those resolutions that the projector can support not what the Th2Go can support.

Will appreciate it if you can help me with that bit of information.

Im betting there was a firmware update. I also bet there's likely no way to update the device either.  :-\

Maurice -
Is your device analog or digital?

CPJ

It's digital. I guess you really needed to know what an analog TripleHead would show. I think Ivar started with or still has an analog device, so maybe he can answer that question as well if he reads this post
