Hi Guys.

Am in the process of wiring up my MIP and have a few problems. Wonder if one of the guru's here can help me?

First of all, my hardware is such: FDS MIP (1st Gen, IBL), FDS SYS4 I/O board, SIM A software.

Ok, so I have a lot of it wired and I come to the Main Panel DU's (panels, Cpt and FO's). These are two rotary pot's, the first one with 5 or 6 selections and the second with 3 positions.

As these are changing the position of the PFD/ND/EICAS to various positions, can I just hook the pots up to the sys card and allocate them as switches, or do I need to change the input to something else?

Second question pretty much relates to the first. Concerning the dimming controls- on the kneeboard dimmers panel (Cpt's side- dimming for the PFD/ND/Eicas and the FO's side dimming for the PFD/ND), these are just pots as well.
Again, it's a software function within Sim A, but how do I change a pot input to a switch input? I think I already have the answer (the FDS FC1 card), but I was just after affirmation from anybody who might already have overcome this problem and has any alternate answers.

Thanx for any help, guys.

Hello Frank,

The DU selection switches should be rotary switches as you mentioned and yes, you woul simply wire them to the Sys4 card and treat like another switch inputs.

The dimming controls should be pots...I use 10K linear pots for mine.   These could be hooked to any analog input card (joystick card) such as FDS's, a Leo Bodnar card, desktop aviator, Phidgets, etc.  you would then configure them under fsuipc as joystick inputs with the appropriate offsets for dimming the displays.

Thank you Scott,

Firstly for the answer and secondly for being one of those guru's.....hahaha

Your welcome Frank.  That is what this community is all about, helping each other.    While I don't consider myself a guru I certainly have been through that same setup scenario as you and it is great to be able to share the knowledge gained.  If you need any more help with it let me know.

Best regards,
Scott
