Real yoke

I acquired a real yoke with the column and the internal mechanism. Today, I try to be able to adapt to function as a single.
I've traveled many forums and post to know many other people who would also fit this kind of material.
So far, I have not made much progress and although I know about what should be done with gas struts and springs, I have not read the post of someone who was really in the same situation as me.
If someone has already do this work or put me in connection with cockpibuiders who did, I would be very grateful.

He has some great photo's and is always willing to help people on the forums.

Thanks tennyson,

I've been in contact with Gwyn.
The problem is that a dual system, the mechanisms are placed between the two yoke. There is more space.
In fact, the main problem, for me, is the process of pitching. With a dual, it is easier to solve using the system in real yoke. For a single like mine and as I like to keep the mechanism of real yoke, I can not find yet...

My pitch mechanism would work fine on a single column! You will just need a good pivot point.

Hi Gwyn,

Yes, your system is working fine.
However, you also have the gas springs. It is true that we could replace the springs by spings.

I was wrong to term it the "return to center". It's for the roll I have a problem. The dual, he was deported from the yoke.
Now I find your very interesting solution. For me, the whole mechanism installed at the bottom of the column (second picture) I really like. Only, my column is the original and is 76 mm outer diameter. With its dimensions, is it possible to adapt the mechanism?

Hi Gafau,
I haven't used any gas springs on my set up, they are just normal extension springs fitted to slide plates. When pitch is pulled, a spring is stretched and the opposing spring plate slides along the anchor bolt. Vice versa when pitch is pushed. The heavy springs and plates hold the column in a centre position. Many builders make the mistake of having springs opposing each other which makes a centre position very vague. I have fitted motorcycle steering dampers to the pitch movement, these slow the movement down and give it a very good hydraulic feel, they stop it being bouncy!

Roll centering - your real column has a central tube going down the inside. I machined an axle to fit inside the tube and this axle is supported at the bottom of the outer tube with a roller bearing in a round plastic block, this block also has the roll travel limit stops. If you place a lever arm on the rotating axle, you will be able to attach an extension spring to the lever arm and this will pull it to a centre position. The centre will be a little vague but this is good for normal flying as you want to be able to adjust roll without a lot of resistance.

Hi Gwyn,
Thank you for this informations, you had already told me to for "motorcycle dampers." In the case of a single, it does need one? In fact, it acts as a shock, is not it?

Could you tell me if you machined yourself your parts. In fact, it is a real problem to find parts in good size ...
Compared to the gear at the bottom of the column, how did you manage to screw it, is it on the sprocket wheel chain?, you had to make holes ?

By the way, do you plan to sell all or part of your process?

Hi Guy,
Yes the motorcycle dampers are just shock absorbers, they have no affect on centering, they just provide resistance to movement.

I do machine all my own parts and I could replicate what I built for you but time is a constraint this year. I do plan to create a real yoke conversion kit but it won't be this year. I will create a document with photographs and engineering drawings to explaining everything I did and I will upload it to this site soon. You will be able to get a local machinist to make it for you, or I might be able to do it for you. Send me an email, gwyn737(at)live.com.au
