Hi,

Let me first wish you a happy New Year 2014 to all of you!

As i'm trying to understand the mess of the different switch types on the overhead, i was thinking about mini or standard switches.

My overhead panels are drilles with 12mm holes, my first idea then is to implement standard switches since the mini will not fit the holes. My question is: are you aware of any tips to fit a mini toggle switch into this 12mm holes?

I'm concerned because i've noticed that mini toggle swiches are cheaper, lighter and easier to find that standard...

Thank you.

Forget about those toy toggle switches, I have used them on a panel before that I made, and they really didn't give me that proper switch feel. They panel didn't even make it into the cockpit until I used these and I am much more happier with these.

I would recommend these and they are cheap enough to get you started if you are on a budget, and none have failed me so far.

Panel cutout diameter: 12.2mm

Hope that helps, I use these with caps and they work great.

Thank you.

But it seems your links don't work. It redirects me to a service error page.

Can you try again?

+1!!

Don't get those cheap miniature switches.quality and feel is horrible. They will eventually fall apart, been there. Now I only use high quality parts (within limits). So much better feeling and they last forever. Doesn't have to cost you a fortune either.

Carling is a good brand I use in my sim. Affordable too.

ok, have you actually went  to your own countries ebay address, and then put in the item number in the ebay search ? and you get what ? can you screen shot it please ? I don't understand why.

hexpope

Actually don't bother, I am getting it too when I go to Ebay.fr and do a search.

Can you goto ebay.co.uk instead of ebay.fr and then do a item number search. See what happens.

Just for your information the price of the switches are:

10 x On/Off for 10 is US $7.15 (free shipping)

the momentary  10 x on/off/on for  is  US $9.18 (free shipping)

If the ebay.co.uk method does not work for you then type this in the search box.

QuoteNew 10 X 6-Pin Toggle DPDT ON-OFF-ON Momentary Switch 15A 250V High Quality EP98

New 10pcs 2-Pin Toggle ON-OFF Switch 15A 250V High Quality EP98 Hot Sale

Hope that helps you, if not, well then I will have to think of more ideas  ???

Still doesn't work for me even from my wife's computer.

I will try from my office tomorrow, anyway, thanks for the info!

Thanks guys for the feedback. I get them too on Ebay.ie

Sean

I also meant to say, go with 12mm switches. Doubly so if your overhead is ready for them. Mine was drilled for miniature and I enlarged them all.

wax78

Thanks guys!

You all have convinced me to move on with 12mm switches.

I will keep you posted of my adventure...

hexpope

Great stuff, at least you didn't make the same mistake using silly toy toggles as I stated in a earlier post. You can't go wrong with the ones I showed you, and they are cheap too. I just hope you get that funny Ebay thing sorted out.

That must have been a pain in a the A$$, I did that also with one of my left switch panels, and I had nearly every hole done to the 12mm parameter, and then perspex cracked on me. Panel was dustbin material after that and had to start again with new dimensions for the switches. Oh well. It happens.

Mine is aluminium, but it was a pain, mainly because it's hard to be gentle with a 12mm drill bit. Once it gets a bite, it just doesn't want to stop. I opened the holes up a mm at a time.

Just one point to consider. If you intend to backlight your overhead and are not using integral lighting eg IBL panels, then you will discover that 12mm size toggle switches are so large that they will mask the backlighting and prevent the light illuminating sections of the front face lettering. This applies to the 737 overhead

I have some ON-OFF carling switches over if you are interested. Brand new.

Send me a PM if interested.

OK, it works from my office, pretty cool, but i'm connected behind a vpn which let ebay think that i'm in the USA... Awesome!

I'm still hesitating between your offer in ebay and the one i saw in futurlec website, which is quite affordable as well.

@archen: thanks for your offer, i'm also looking for locking toggle switch, i'm interested if you have some.

@fordgt40: thanks for the info. Will it be possible although to put some backlight into the overhead?

archen

Sorry, no locking toggles. Onlinecomponents and verical have the best prices for those. Be aware that these switches are NOT cheap. $20-30 each if you are lucky. That does not include the white top which is purchased seperately. You can also use FDS silicon hats if you heat them up and stretch them a bit.

Wax 78

Yes, you can still backlight, but the legends on the front plates will be unevenly lit or possibly unlit where the 12mm toggles mask the lettering
